The government was on a quest to improve the reliability of the rail system. Khaw, 71, who is now the chairman of SPH Media Trust, recalled that PM Lee took a personal interest, even in the engineering details of the rail network.

The Congress party ended the speculation surrounding their candidates for the Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The party announced Rahul Gandhi as its candidate from Rae Bareli while Kishori Lal Sharma will be contesting from Amethi. As part of their seat-sharing agreement with the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Congress is contesting a total of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
