'He kept comparing me to other women': Singaporean man kicks Vietnamese wife out after she gives birth

SINGAPORE – A month after their son was born, Lily’s husband kicked her out of his home and blocked her from seeing their baby. That marked the start of a long ordeal for the 30-year-old Vietnamese bride, who did not see her son for about 10 months. “I feel it’s very unfair. I’m not in the wrong and I have not been unfaithful,” Lily (not her real name) said in Mandarin, adding that her husband gave her no reason why he wanted to cut ties.  “I missed the first 10 months of my child’s life and this is very painful for me.” Lily came to Singapore four years ago to look for a better-paying job, and she found one as a kitchen helper at a restaurant.  A compatriot introduced her to her Singaporean husband, a twice-divorced mechanic 15 years her senior. The couple dated for a few months before she became pregnant, and they tied the knot. But their relationship started to fray during her pregnancy. She said: “He kept criticising me and comparing me to other women, saying I was so fat during my pregnancy and I’m not pretty enough. He kept saying I was not gentle with him like the beer ladies.”

Bees had also appeared in the vicinity of Block 984D Buangkok Link on the same night, reported Shin Min Daily News. Chen said that he reported the situation to the town council, and was told that they had received a report from another resident. The town council also reminded him to stay indoors and close all windows and turn off the lights. «I waited till almost midnight and called [the town council] several times, but they said that several flats in the Buangkok district were affected and asked me to wait patiently,» said Chen.

A Singaporean motorcyclist was hospitalised in Thailand following an accident while on vacation on July 19. Speaking to AsiaOne on Monday (July 22), Fairuz Yusof from Malaysian insurance firm ANF Services said that he was notified about the accident involving his Singaporean client in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Located in southern Thailand, the province is around 120 kilometres away from popular tourist destination Hat Yai. «A Thai motorcyclist collided into the Singaporean after entering the main road without signalling,»said Fairuz, adding that the latter lost control of his vehicle and hit a truck. Fairuz declined to share the Singaporean's name, citing privacy reasons. Photos shared by ANF Services on Facebook show several concerned passers-by helping the injured motorcyclist, who was sitting along the roadside.  Another photo showed a local police officer near the damaged motorcycle with its broken parts strewn on the road.  After three days in a Thai hospital, the man, who is in his 30s, was discharged last Sunday and flew back to Singapore on the same day.

Mouldy frozen 'tang yuan'? Manufacturer claims 'temperature abuse' behind customer's complaint

While cooking some frozen 'tang yuan' (glutinous rice balls), a customer discovered some «green stuff» on several of the sweet rice balls, which turned out to be mould.  Taking to Facebook group Complaint Singapore on Tuesday (July 16), the shopper said he had bought two packs of the Spring Home brand product from the FairPrice outlet at Yew Tee Point. Both packs expire in May 2025, and only one pack was affected, he added.  Photos accompanying his post show dark green spots on several of the frozen glutinous rice balls. He said he bought the items over a month ago. The customer subsequently contacted food manufacturer Tee Yih Jia, which said in an email reply to him that their quality assurance and control team observed «serious mould growth» on the glutinous rice balls, which indicates that there is «a broken cold chain». The cold chain is the maintenance of temperature-sensitive food products at the correct temperature across the supply chain process to ensure food safety and quality.

They said the female motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 53-year-old male van driver was taken conscious to hospital. Police investigations are ongoing. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it rescued a person who was trapped in the driver’s seat of the van, and took the person to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Another person, who was assessed for minor injuries, declined to be taken to the hospital, added the SCDF. This was the third reported fatal road accident that happened on July 20. Tengah residents welcome new bus service and interchange, some hope for 'more transport options in future'

SINGAPORE - Mr Shahrul Khan, 25, was concerned about his commute to work at a vaccination centre in Kaki Bukit in the east from his new flat in Tengah in the west. But his worries were eased with the introduction of bus service 871 on July 21. He is pleased that the bus will pass Beauty World MRT station – a convenient route for him to get to work when he and his fiancee move into their new home at the end of 2024. The couple will be living at Parc Clover, situated opposite a new bus interchange that also opened on July 21 in Tengah Boulevard. They travelled to Tengah to check out the new interchange as well as the progress of their new flat. Speaking to The Straits Times, Mr Khan, who lives in the east, said: “When there was talk that a bus interchange was going to be built here, we looked out for which buses were coming here and where they would stop. “The fact that a bus is going to Beauty World station, which is on the Downtown Line, makes it quite efficient and easy for me to go to the east via Bugis station.” The new bus interchange in Tengah is managed by Tower Transit and currently has three bus services – 870, 871 and 992.
