A 36-year-old man will be charged in court on Friday (June 19) for alleged possession of a scheduled weapon, unauthorised possession of weapons and multiple traffic offences.He was the driver of a red saloon car which was involved in an accident with a yellow ComfortDelGro taxi along Kallang Bahru towards Lavender Street on Wednesday.He allegedly abandoned his car and fled the scene prior to police officers' arrival.Suspected drugs, drug-related paraphernalia, e-vaporisers and a knuckleduster were later found in the car and seized as case exhibits.He faces seven charges, including the possession of a scheduled weapon; unauthorised possession of weapons; driving while under the influence of a drug; dangerous driving causing hurt; driving without a valid driving licence, leaving vehicle causing obstruction; and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

A diplomatic note from the United States (US) Embassy in Kingston has stated  that a Cabinet minister proposed a controversial deal to Washington that would have had Jamaica “receive” up to 10,000 third-country nationals (TCNs).  The note, sent to the Jamaican Government, said former Ambassador to the US and Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Efficiency, Innovation, and Digital Transformation Audrey Marks made the proposal.

MOH revokes licence of Windsor Convalescent Home over 'serious and systemic lapses'

The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (June 18) issued a notice to revoke Windsor Convalescent Home's licence to provide nursing home services over what it described as «serious and systemic lapses».The 45-bed facility, located at 369 Pasir Panjang Road, will have its licence revoked on Oct 30.This means that it will no longer be able to provide nursing home services at the said premises from the given date, the ministry stated.Explaining why the home's licence was not revoked immediately, the ministry said this considers the time required to transfer current residents at the facility to other nursing homes.Meanwhile, the ministry has deployed an interim care team from Vanguard Healthcare to Windsor Convalescent Home to ensure that residents will continue to receive proper care throughout the process.What happenedSharing its findings from an audit, MOH said the «serious and systemic lapses» are in the areas of resident safety, clinical and nursing care, and infection control practices.For example, the audit found that residents' fundamental care needs, such as basic grooming were neglected.

A new variant of malware-enabled scams is actively targeting senior citizens on android devices, the police said in an advisory on Thursday (June 18).Since April 1, 2026, at least eight cases have been reported, with victims losing a total of about $69,000.Scam operations begin on platforms like Facebook and TikTok, where scammers plant alluring advertisements promoting various activities tailored specifically for senior citizens. Interested seniors who submit their personal contact details on these ads are quickly contacted by fraudsters via WhatsApp. Scammers then instruct the victims to download an android package kit file under the pretense of viewing a comprehensive list of activities.Once the file is installed, some victims notice that their critical security applications, such as Singpass or ScamShield, are uninstalled from their phones.In one instance, a victim discovered that his online banking transaction limit had been increased without authorisation.
