3 Villages Razed In Batibo, 4 Deserted After Bloody Attack *Collateral Casualties Overwhelmed Local Administrators

By Chris Mbunwe Some unidentified gunmen, March 3, reportedly attacked Cameroon security forces deployed in Batibo Subdivision to combat separatist forces, who were already celebrating that they have captured most of the villages in the Subdivision. Talking to The Post, the Mayor of Batibo, Frederick Tanjoh, affirmed that some deaths were recorded, but nobody is certain as to how many casualties were recorded on either side (military and civilian) “People who were on the Bamenda-Batibo Highway have confirmed that they saw legs of people dangling from a military truck heading towards Bamenda after the March 3 three incident. As we are talking, nobody is willing to give information about the causalities recorded so far and we are only left with prayers. Mass arrests of civilians have been reported in villages in Lower Batibo, with the least population of about 4000 people, who have deserted Korgwe, Effa,Koroko, Ambo and Angie villages. In addition, Gurissen and Kwano Villages of Upper Bafang in Tingto, our neighbours were razed by fire and nobody is claiming responsibility for these acts of arson and destruction,” Mayor Tanjoh averred. According to the Municipal authority, there has been a lot of internal displacement and most of these people in their thousands are either relocating with their relatives in Batibo Town or in Bamenda and other Divisions that share borders with Batibo. For over a month since the unrest started in the village of Ambo, movements in Batibo have been very difficult because the soldiers have waged a war on commercial bike riders. Any bike caught at night or during the day is set on fire. Moreover, the young boys have deserted their villages and are in bushes. It would be recalled that the incident of last Sunday that triggered the numerous deaths on either side at Angie Village before spreading to other areas have brought about untold hardship on people, as businesses, schools and even churches have been shutdown. When this reporter visited Batibo, he noticed that the Fons too have deserted their Palaces and the locals were very scared to talk to him. In Batibo Town, where there is relative peace, it is business as usual, but nobody engages in a conversation freely with an unknown person because the place is flooded with soldiers and plain security men, who eavesdrops every conversation especially in drinking places.

PMUC Signs Convention With Littoral Gendarmerie To Financially Assist Training Of ‘Bendskin’ Riders

By Joe Dinga Pefok The citizen friendly enterprise, Pari Mutuel Urbain Camerounais, PMUC, on March 6, signed a convention with the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion to financially assist in the training of riders of commercial motorcycles in Douala, commonly known as ‘bendskins’. The venue of the signing ceremony was the conference hall of the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion located at Bonanjo, Douala. On hand to sign the convention on behalf of the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion was the Legion Commander, Colonel Francois Ahanda Abina, while the Deputy General Manager of PMUC, Tatyana M. Eldin, signed on behalf of her enterprise. Speaking before the signing ceremony, the Commander of the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion, Colonel Abina, stated that the signing of the convention between the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion and PMUC, for the former to financially assist in the training of commercial motorcycle riders, is a continuous action that has been going on for some time now. He remarked that the partnership between the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion and PMUC, was initiated before he came to Douala as Legion Commander. What The Convention Is All About The Littoral Gendarmerie Legion Commander started by asserting that commercial motorcycle riders are citizens like other Cameroonians, and that as citizens, they also have the responsibility to respect the law. But he pointed out that it was no secret to anybody in Douala that a bulk of the thousands of ‘bendskin’ riders operating in the town, had not been trained and thus did not have their Category ‘A’ Licence. That they had been operating in violation of the Law. He asserted that the National Gendarmerie, which has as one of its missions to fight against the violation of the law or against law breakers was very concerned with the situation. The Legion Commander stated that the local administration, including the Gendarmerie as a State institution, was engaged in a search for a solution to assist these citizens who are commercial motorcycle riders, to operate in conformity with the law. For one thing, the commercial motorcycle riders were complaining of lack of finance to follow a training course which ends with those who succeed in the test, to obtain the Category ‘A’ Licence, and for which they have to pay for. It was within this backdrop that the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion contacted PMUC and solicited their financial assistance to help pay for the Licences of those bendskin riders who take part in the training programme, and succeed in the driving test. The special training programme, which is carried out in collaboration with the Gendarmerie, is for free to groups of bendskin riders. The last group of commercial motorcycle riders in Douala to be trained by the special programme, completed their course last month, and 200 succeeded in the driving test. The convention that was signed on March 6 between the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion and PMUC, was for the latter to provide money to pay for the Category ‘A’ licences for the 200 commercial motorcycle riders. Riders Predominantly Youths Also speaking at the convention signing ceremony, the Deputy General Manager of PMUC, Tatyana Eldin, said when the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion contacted them to financially assist in the training programme for commercial motorcycle riders in Douala, they, as a citizen friendly enterprise, responded positively. This, considering the important role that the commercial motorcycle sector has come to play in society. The Deputy GM emphasised the fact that PMUC has been more concerned with the situation of the commercial motorcycle sector, considering that the riders are predominantly youths, as well as the fact that the rate of accidents, including ghastly accidents, involving commercial motorcycle riders, had become so alarming. As a citizen friendly enterprise, PMUC could not be indifferent to such a disturbing situation. She said PMUC is happy to be involved in the training programme being organised for commercial motorcycle riders in the nation’s economic capital. Selection For Training Programme Talking to reporters about the special training programme being organised for commercial motorcycle riders in Douala, Wille Kegne, the head of the Wouri Divisional Coordination of syndicates of commercial motorcycle riders that was set up by the former Wouri SDO, Naseri Paul Bea, explained that the only condition is that a rider should be registered with a sub-divisional syndicate where he is resident or where he operates. Kegne said when any of the special training programme is planned, the Wouri Divisional Coordination of sub-divisional syndicates of commercial motorcycle riders, fixes a quota for each of the five municipalities in Douala. This is as regard the number of commercial motorcycle riders, that each of the five different municipalities will through the sub-divisional syndicates, send in for the free training course. This is to ensure that a fair chance is provided to riders in all the five municipalities to take part in the free-of- charge training. Rates Of Bendskin Accidents on The Decline The Commander of the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion, Colonel Abina, disclosed that the Gendarmerie have been observing some decline in the number of accidents involving commercial motorcycle riders in Douala, since the special training programme started. However, considering that there are estimated to be tens of thousands of commercial motorcycle riders in Douala, the Legion Commander stated that there are still thousands of riders operating in the nation’s economic capital who have not been trained. He asserted that the untrained commercial motorcycle riders do not know the Highway Code; reasons for their frequent involvement […]

Anglophone Crisis: Kah Walla Slams Gov’t For Intransigence

By Basil K Mbuye The President of the Cameroon People’s Party, CPP, Edith Kah Walla, has slammed the Government for its poor handling of the Anglophone Crisis and has also proposed a way out in restoring peace in the Northwest and Southwest Regions. In an open letter to Cameroonians and to President Paul Biya, the CPP President speaks about the extradition of Ayuk Tabe and other Anglophone leaders from Nigeria to Cameroon – a move she described as “international kidnapping” by the Biya regime, because international norms were not respected. She bemoans the death of civilians and armed forces, the illegal imprisonment, the burning of villages and also the alarming rate of refugees, which, according to her, is now between 15,000 and 45,000 refugees. “The attacks of the armed groups are multiplying every day; the reprisals of the armed forces entail the loss of innocent lives and the destruction of villages. The social and economic effects of these are disastrous. No Cameroonian is exempted. We are all paying and will continue to pay for decades, the price of irresponsible governance that has driven our country to this point. What can we do? Today, we ask you to join your voice and call on the two groups that commit acts of violence in our country and endanger the lives of Cameroonians,” Kah Walla states. She also blames the Biya regime for being responsible for the situation the country finds itself in now. “You are the only group responsible for the situation in our country. Thirty-five years ago, a prosperous and peaceful country was handed to you. For three decades you have led us on the path of poverty and growing conflict. Today, we are on the brink of war, pure and simple. It is time for it to stop. As a plan, you must take immediate steps to ensure that our country does not collapse completely,” she averred. She called on Biya to resign and not to take the country “… further into the war.” According to Kah Walla, for calm to return to Cameroon, a number of things must be done. While criticising the arrest of Sisiku Ayuk Tabe and other Anglophone leaders, she advises the State to: “Immediately ensure that these leaders have access to their families and lawyers,” for it is their right guaranteed by the Cameroonian law. “Your continuous violation of the law creates tension and panic among their followers. This situation will lead to further conflicts and bloodshed if it is not repaired immediately,” she advises. The CPP President also urged the State to release all arrested in connection to the on-going crisis in the two Anglophone Regions for they are ” illegally deprived of their basic rights as citizens by denying them a legal process and for subjecting them to torture and inhuman conditions of detention.” Advice To Different Armed Groups In NW, SW Kah Walla advises the different armed groups in the Anglophone Regions to know that their actions are also hurting the same Anglophone people they are fighting for. This, she calls on them to; “agree on the need to end discrimination and to ensure that Anglophones enjoy all their rights as citizens. There is no doubt that the State of Cameroon has consistently used a disproportionate force during the past year in the Southwest and Northwest Regions; “It is clear that the Government of Cameroon has systematically targeted civilians and punished masses of innocent people for crimes committed by a few; There is no doubt that your decision to use violence to fight for your rights has punished and continued to endanger the lives of the Anglophones you fight for,” she observed. She ended her letter by calling on; “all English speakers, be they separatists, federalists or even those who are attached to the current centralised model, to agree on the need to end discrimination and to ensure that Anglophones enjoy all their rights as citizens.”

How Soldiers Looted In Ambo-Batibo: Victims’ Tragic Tales

By Chris Mbunwe Wednesday, January 31, is the day and month that a Batibo man in Momo Division of the Northwest will hardly forget. On this day, soldiers who were chasing a bike and gunman who, as early as 8am, went round town shooting in the air and chanting “Ambazonia Oye! Ambazonia Oye, our new country Oye!” and his mystical disappearance when he reached Ambo village, left the soldiers confused and they started venting their anger on the unarmed population. For fear of being arrested, young men and women disappeared into bushes. The whole of Batibo Commercial street was deserted. In order to steal freely, the soldiers went on the rampage, firing guns in the air and the villagers disappeared into the bushes nearby and watched helplessly as their shops, private homes were being broken into, ransacked inside-out and goods carted away in their military vehicles. Over FCFA 4 million, was stolen from stores and goods estimated at FCFA 7 million, carried away by soldiers. When this reporter met the soldiers at the brigade, some of them were still feeding on their booty; bread, smoked meat, fresh meat from restaurants, biscuits, sardines, assorted can foods. Anyone who resisted or tried to prevent the soldiers’ access to stores around was severely beaten. Victims Recount Tragic Tales One of the victims, Mary Ngati, 70, a Widow who is barely eking out life through the sale of food, recounted that the soldiers stormed her home and carted away food and money. “My husband died a year ago and we have been managing this business for a living. Unfortunately for us, this morning, soldiers from nowhere came chasing us out of our homes, shops, and where they could not gain access they smashed the door open and took every franc collected. We sold food for FCFA 24,000, and they carried it away with smoked meat, foot trotters etc.” The CWF Treasurer of Presbyterian Church Ambo, Bridget Mbah, bemoaned the grabbing of church money by soldiers: “The money I brought from Church yesterday and today, about FCFA 125,000, have all been carried away by the soldiers who forced opened my bedroom and went straight for the mattress.” Another victim, Grace Aboh, 67, said: “the soldiers shattered all the louvers of our new house. We were still planning to move into the newly constructed house. I cannot estimate the cost of destruction and the amount cannot be below FCFA 500,000” According to Alfred Tah, whose finger was shattered by a gunshot, the solders got him well beaten because their gunshot aimed at him, didn’t get the target. Hear him: “a bullet aimed at me failed to get me on the right spot, but it shattered my finger. When they forced the door open and got into my bedroom, the soldier shot at me but I immediately fell on the floor and prostrated. He got me up and started beating me with a plank, calling me an ‘Odeishi’. My FCFA 700,000, android phones, whiskies and many things I had in my shop were carted away”. Not even the physically challenged were spared from the military brutality as Milani Anoh, a physically impaired was also assaulted: “I am a disabled and I have only this hair dressing saloon that the military have destroyed for my livelihood. Right now I am so depressed.” Eleve Atout, who is yet another victim who was tortured and fleeced of FCFA 300.000, had this to say: “My finger was shot and I was helpless as the soldiers molested me and collected FCFA 300,000 from my store.” To Divine Mbah, a businessman in Batibo, “It has been a very sad day. All the laptops and other electronics that were in my shop, as well as FCFA 250,000, have been carried away by the uniform men.” The story is not different from that of Ebenezer Nyambod Fon, who was arrested, thoroughly thrashed by the soldiers, his wallet containing FCFA 51500, was seized and he was later released to meet his mates in the bushes. Other victims, Magaret Tendong and her sister, Bridget Anye said the door into their house was smashed and the soldiers ransacked the bed rooms and carted away an unspecified amount of money and jewels. Meanwhile, Grace Nduuh, a bar attendant said the soldiers broke into her off- license and drank some beer and soft drinks to their satisfaction. “The worst thing they did was to break the bottles of beer since they could not carry them away.” However, life has returned to normal in Ambo – Batibo, after the havoc caused by the soldiers.

Gendarmes Murder Suspects After Torturing, Sharing Video Online

By Andrew Nsoseka A video making rounds on the social media, showing Gendarme officers torturing suspected aiders or orchestrators of attacks on officers has reportedly ended with the brutal assassination of the suspects. The video, whose setting could not be deduced, except for the mention of Fundong by one of the suspects under torture, is trending on the social media. Gendarme officers in the video, whose faces were not shown, except for half of their uniformed bodies, could be seen questioning and torturing two handcuffed men. The victims, one of whom was referred to as Samson, dressed in a red T-Shirt and red shorts, wearing dreadlocks, was on the floor with broken and bleeding limbs, beside numerous little brown wrapped papers containing some substance which he (Samson) confessed was tobacco that he sells, but are suspected to have aided or had knowledge about attacks on gendarme officers. In the video, the said Samson was tortured and interrogated on the role he plays in the attacks of gendarme officers and the whereabouts of their guns. The said gun was seemingly not found in the place where he was captured.Several times; he refused any knowledge of the attacks of gendarmes. He also refused ever having or using a gun. He said all he knows and does is selling ‘tobacco’ which were carted from his house and brought out to where he was tortured. His grilling was accompanied by cries in agony as he was being flogged and maimed. Throughout the video, the said Samson denied accusations levelled against him, as he spoke with a mouthful of blood oozing out as a result of the torture being administered on him. In the video another suspect dressed in a red dress and Jean trousers, whose name wasn’t mentioned throughout the video, was shown, answering questions and giving details on the said attacks on gendarmes. He confessed that he knew about the attack and did not participate in it. He went further to say that Samson, the other suspect also had knowledge about the attack and that those who attacked the Gendarmes were four in number. In his own version, Samson’s co-suspect said Samson had earlier boasted that if shot, the bullets wouldn’t penetrate him, because he had a traditionally made talisman that makes him bullet proof. As he narrated his own version with guns pointed over his head, blood in the mouth and streams of clotted blood that ran from his nostrils to his body, he made confessions that tend to incriminate his co-suspect. Also in the video, several gendarmerie officers could be seen, making frantic efforts to videotape the whole process and also threatening to shoot the suspects, if they didn’t tell them what they wanted to hear. The video is preceded by a photograph of the dead suspects, lying in their pool of blood. The gory pictures of the dead twosome has surfaced amongst the pictures circulating on the social media, asking people to identify and take the corpses for burial as they had been abandoned at the Bamenda Regional hospital. It is alleged that the corpses, said to be five in number, cannot be kept in the morgue because of their very bad state. Reports also say the corpses were brought tothe hospital byseven Gendarmes from Belo, a village that came under heavy military assault recently.

Anglophone Crisis Makes Chiefs To Stop Wearing Caps

By Maxcel Fokwen Scores of traditional rulers across Meme Division, Southwest Region, now go about their daily engagements without caps on their heads. This phenomenon is seen as a move to avoid potential attacks and threats to life. The traditional rulers known to put on caps that stand them out even in public gatherings now go around the metropolis of Kumba void of their royal caps. Most of them don’t put on any other cap. Their heads are now exposed like ordinary citizens. It looks like some form of camouflage from the Chiefs to fit into the society owing to the commotion and confusion set into Meme from recent developments of the Anglophone Crisis. There is also the noticeableabsence of other royal items worn on the neck and hands. These are no longer part of the daily dress code of Chiefs. Their traditional brooms have also vanished. In the last two weeks, it hasbeen rare to spot a Meme Chief putting on traditional beads. Things associated with tradition or royalty, externally, are absent. A member of the Bakundu Chiefs Conference that The Post approached on the new development, said it is part of individual security measures. The traditional ruler who opened up to The Post on condition of anonymity said: “Things have gone out of hand. We didn’t expect this …. When people, for no reason, begin to target custodians of tradition, then, it means something has gone out of place in the society. Even enemies of some traditional rulers may want to use this current crisis to settle personal scores. So, we are all aware of these things. You see what happened to our colleague of Ngongo … it is sickening,” the traditional ruler lamented. Another Chief interviewed said the war has been shifted into the camp of the Chiefs with threatening messages. “With one Chief already killed, there is no room for jokes,” he averred. Asked if the traditional rulers cannot use charms to fight back, the Chief said the situation is still under consideration. The royal father said, among them, there are Chiefs with powers but they are just being cautious not to enter a realm where the damage might be regrettable. Our sources said, at the moment, even some calibre of politicians are not needed besides traditional rulers. Genesis Of Cap-less Chiefs Fright ripped through the traditional rulers after unknown gunmen assassinated Chief Johannes Ekebe Niongo of Ngongo Village on January 12. Text messages threatening other Chiefs reportedly worsened the situation. A meeting of Meme Chiefs during which a formal petition was expected to be addressed to the appropriate Government quarters over the security of traditional rulers suffered an indefinite postponement. The Post learnt that it is for the same security reason that the meeting suffered an indefinite deferment.

2018 Presidential Polls: Can Akere Muna Finally Break Anti-Opposition Coalition Jinx?

By Joe Dinga Pefok For over two decades, opposition political parties in Cameroon have been unable to create a strong coalition that can challenge President Biya’s ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, in any election. However, a couple of weeks after Barrister Akere Muna created the Platform for a New Republic in Yaounde to rally support for his 2018 Presidential candidature, many Cameroonians think that the anti-opposition coalition jinx may finally be broken. The President of the Platform is Jacques Maboula Mboya, Mayor of Yabassi in Nkam Division, Littoral Region, while the Secretary General is Alice Sadio, leader of Alliance of Progressive Forces, AFP. The Treasurer of the platform is Chretien Tabetsing, a former SDF militant, who challenged Fru Ndi at the party’s 1999 Elective National Convention in Yaounde, for the post of National Chairman. Even though he was humiliated with a crushing defeat in the election, Tabetsing has bounced back in the political arena. Besides Akere Muna’s movement, a number of political parties and civil society groups that participated at the Yaounde in-camera meeting, excluding the UPC faction, signed a convention that created the political platform. The political parties that created the New Republic are: ‘Front Populaire pour la Developement’, FPD, with headquarter in Ngaoundere, and ‘Parti National des Patriotes Camerounais’, PNPC, with ‘headquarter’ in Bertoua. Others like ‘Bloc pour la Reconstruction de Independence Economique du Cameroun’, BRIC, with ‘headquarter’ in Yaounde, only leapt to the political limelight in 2011. This was when the former General Manager of the National Investment Fund, Esther Dang, struck a deal with the leader of the party and used it for her failed presidential bid. After the 2011 presidential, the party went into oblivion and only resurfaced at the Yaounde meeting. Even the UPC faction led by Habiba Issa that attended the Yaounde meeting is not among the UPC factions that can pull a sizable number of militants. In fact, the only well known name in the political platform to support Akere Muna’s 2018 Presidential bid is Alice Sadio’s AFP. AFP is a party that is close to the Munas. Barrister Ben Muna is a former leader of the AFP. But AFP has never won even one of the 350 councils in Cameroon. Mayor Of Yabassi Meanwhile, there is much talk about the support of the Mayor of Yabassi, Jacque Maboula Mboya, to Akere Muna. Mboya, an old friend of Akere Muna, until his recent declaration of support to Akere Muna’s candidature was a militant of the CPDM. In 2013, CPDM officials, elite and militants in Yabassi were bitterly divided following a controversy created by the CPDM Central Committee Secretariat to impose a list for the Municipal Elections in Yabassi. The list was strongly rejected by many local CPDM officials, elite and militants and vowed to vote against the imposed list. Unfortunately there was no opposition party like the SDF, UPC, MLDC, CPP or MP in Yabassi then to exploit the situation. It was then that Mboya quickly negotiated with the leader of ‘L’Union pour la Fraternité et la Prosperité’, UFP, Oliver Bile, to put up a UFP list for the municipal election in Yabassi. Before then, the party did not even exist in Yabassi. During the election campaign, Mboya and his team pledged their support to President Biya, but said they were against the imposed list. With such campaigns, the disgruntled CPDM militants of Yabassi voted for the UFP list and Mboya became Mayor. But on October 1, 2017, Mboya took part in the CPDM rally and public march in Douala that was organised by the Littoral CPDM Coordinator, Laurent Esso. He was even one of the personalities chosen by Esso to deliver a talk at the occasion. With such political double standard, many doubt if Mboya can really dump the Biya regime for Akere Muna. But many sympathisers of the New Republic are upbeat that Mboya can galvanise a lot of support, given his position as Yabassi Mayor. Force Of Platform Members Meanwhile, many political commentators are asking what each member of the New Republic can bring to the table in terms of support for Akere’s presidential bid. The problem has further been compounded by the fact that no political party West of the Mungo was present at the Yaounde meeting. But members of the platform argued that what happened in Yaounde was just the launching ceremony and that moves were underway to get more political parties and civil society organisations on board. But political analysts are unanimous that the problem is not the number of political parties that Akere can get will on the platform, but rather the weight of the parties. There are over 300 such political parties in Cameroon today, though the facts on the field show there are less than 10 political parties that really exist in the country. The rest in reality exist only on paper. Akere Muna As Presidential Material There is no doubt that the senior and brilliant international legal counsel, Akere Muna, who is also a former President of the Cameroon Bar Council, and is as well perfectly bilingual, has a CV that indisputably qualifies him as good presidential material for Cameroon. He is a distinguished personality, well known at the international scene. But the fact is that CVs don’t win presidential elections anywhere in the world; not even in the United States, France, Britain, Germany or Canada. What matters most is the […]

Infighting, Anglophone Crisis Maintain Nfon Mukete As SWECC President

By Maxcel Fokwen Infighting among traditional rulers of Fako and the lingering Anglophone Crisis have given Cameroon’s eldest Senator,Nfon V EMukete, a firm grip on the Southwest Chiefs’ Conference, SWECC,stool. The Paramount ruler of the Bafaws is also enjoying a mandate prolongation as Meme Chiefs’Conference President. Nfon Mukete’s Mandate at the helm of SWECC had long expired. A meeting that would have seen the putting in place of a new bureau headed by a Fako Chief inLimbe in 2017, ran into riots. Confusion within the ranks of the Fako Chiefs as to who is the right choice to head SWECC forced the then Fako Senior Divisional Officer, SDO,George Zang III,to ban the meeting. Since then the fractures in Fako are yet to be healed. In the wake of the infighting, a new development erupted suggesting that the SWECC stool could be shifted to Manyu, while Fako cleans its house. This move earned a rebuttal from Some Fako Chiefs. Months after Chief Johnson Njombe of Wokaka emerged on a contested ticked as the Fako candidate for SWECC. Njombe unilaterally declared himself SWECC President –elect. Since then, there has been no reaction from Mukete-led executive. Last December, both Nfon Mukete and Chief Njombe were part of a Regional administrative and Security Coordination meeting held at the Kumba City Council Chambers. The Post could not figure out if both traditional rules were invited in the name of their Chiefdoms or SWECC ticket. Recent military and separatists activities in Manyu seem to have given the option of moving the stool to Manyu a decent burial. Officially, the Bafaw patriarch still occupies the SWECC presidency. The turn of events prints an atmosphere that will not accommodate any general assembly of Southwest Chiefs anytime soon. Meme Chiefs Postpone Election At the level of Meme,Nfon Mukete still calls the shots. The present security situations directly involving even chiefs indicate that, the statesman may still keep the leadership of the Meme Chiefs for some time. Nfon Mukete leads here on a ticket of Bafaw Chiefs. He may have handed over in December. But a meeting convened for an elective general assembly of Meme Chiefs on Wednesday December 6, 2017, ended in a fiasco. Back then, traditional rulers rejected a verbal authorisation from the Meme Prefect’s cabinet to hold a meeting. On Friday January 19, another Elective General Assembly of the Meme Chiefs suffered an indefinite postponement. The Post garnered that, Meme Chiefs’Conference Scribe, Chief Eseme Mbonji Etongwe, sent last minute text messages to his peers, announcing the indefinite postponement of the elective conclave. It is reported that the current atmosphere in Meme triggered the indefinite postponement of the meeting. Even at this, many see the delay as a blessing for the controversial Bakundu Chiefs’ Conference to put things in order and get a unique candidate to succeed the Nfon.
