Sometimes looking for the ideal in life is quite a difficult task. We’re constantly searching for the ideal restaurant, the ideal home and, of course, the ideal car. Like all the luxuries in life, the ideal way to com-mute is sometimes out of reach – but probably, not any longer.  The ideal car is modern. It’s equipped with all the latest technology where personalisation is real and comfort is the ultimate deciding factor. The ideal car is also quite the looker, streamlined curves, flashy lights and a sweet set of rims to carry you along the way. The ideal car is environmentally friendly, with a silent smart engine that’s totally electric and guilt free. It’s also decked out with state-of-the-art smart media where calls, a navigation system and Blue-tooth pairing are easily set up.  Sounds too good to be true, right? And if it is true, it’s possibly out of your price range. Well, why own a car when you can use the GoTo cars, present at various locations?  The €8 million initiative, introduced by GoTo Malta last year and run in collaboration with Transport Malta, consists of various electric car charging sta-tions installed across Malta, servicing a fleet of 150 Renault Zoe...

Luxury on wheels

It came as no surprise that, among the impressive collection of exotic cars one finds on our island, we also have a Bentley Bentayga. When I bumped into an old friend who told me he had recently acquired one, I very willingly accepted his kind offer to take it out for a spin. The Bentley Bentayga combines unparalleled luxury with effortless performance and everyday usability. When it was launched in September 2015, with an all-new W12 powertrain, Bentley claimed that it was the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world. The Bentayga offers a true Bentley driving experience and showcases innovative technology features. Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Crewe, the UK, the Bentayga’s styling is pure Bentley. Sculptural with an elegant, timeless execution, it balances athleticism with confidence. From the four round LED headlamps and large matrix grille, to the distinctive power line and muscular haunches, the Bentley DNA is apparent throughout. The Bentayga boasts the world’s finest automotive cabin, with unrivalled levels of precision. The detailing in metal, wood and leather – including meticulous tolerances between elements of trim – is the...

Development threatens country house in Tarxien built before the Great Siege

The 500-year-old Grade 1 scheduled Villa Barbaro in Tarxien may have withstood the onslaught of the Great Siege but it is under threat from an application to build an apartment block directly in front of it. The development would dwarf the unique two-storey heritage country house and wipe out its all-important context. The owner of the house, Marquis Antony Cremona Barbaro, who has been fighting a frustrating battle to extend the buffer zones around his pre-Great Siege property, has thrown down the gauntlet in the firm belief that the protection of the context of a historical building of the sort is as important as scheduling the country house itself. In reality, he admitted, adequate buffer zones to ensure the proper safeguarding of these buildings and their gardens from disproportionately high surrounding development were seldom granted, with the result that many had already been “visually disfigured”, neutralising the purpose of the protective scheduling. “There is absolutely no point in giving maximum scheduling and supposedly full protection to these heritage buildings, as in the case of Villa Barbaro, if their setting is not safeguarded too,” he argued about the importance...

Saudi Arabian Military Industries and France's Naval sign deal to build warships in the Kingdom

Sun, 2019-02-17 13:32 DUBAI: State-owned Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) and France’s Naval Group signed a memorandum of understanding Sunday, said Al-Arabiya. Reuters said Paris and Riyadh agreed to manufacture warships, frigates, and submarines in Saudi, Al-Arabiya added. The parties also agreed to produce and develop naval systems. The Saudi 2030 Vision is highly reliant on the contribution of SAMI to the GDP. According to the vision, the plan is to nationalize 50% of the military spending, and increase the contribution of the private sector to the GDP by 40-65%. Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia expects SAMI to contribute almost $240 million to the national GDP by 2020, and to create 5,000 new jobs. SAMI is set to become one of the top 25 manufacturers in the military industry globally, combining latest technologies and best expertise to produce military equipment according to international standards and aid the development of the Saudi army. The company’s strategy is based on implementing best practices from extensive studies in the industry, and collaborating with national and international partners. SAMI designed their areas of operation to increase profitability and nationalization of the industry. Pakistan PM receives Saudi crown prince at Rawalpindi airbase

Sun, 2019-02-17 18:31 ISLAMABAD: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was received by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa as he landed in Rawalpindi on Sunday evening to sign a host of important investment deals during a two-day visit. Prime Minister Khan broke protocol by personally driving the Saudi royal from the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi on the outskirts of the capital city of Islamabad. The trip, the crown prince's first to the country since he became the heir-apparent in April 2017, is being seen by Pakistan as one of the most important state visits in recent memory. It is aimed at boosting bilateral ties, long defined by security and defense deals, by expanding economic cooperation and sealing several investment deals. During the visit, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are expected to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in various sectors including investment, finance, power, renewable energy, internal security, media, culture, and sports. Deals of over $20 billion will be signed, information minister Fawad Chaudhry told Arab News on Sunday. The crown jewel in the investments is a $10 billion refinery and petrocomplex to be set up in the port of city of Gwadar in southwestern Pakistan.  Pakistan has put out all stops for the visit of the powerful Saudi heir, with Saudi and Pakistani flags, welcome banners and huge portraits of the crown prince, PM Khan and Pakistani President Arif Alvi put up at several key points in Islamabad. Security was tight in the capital on the weekend, with authorities restricting entry into the Red Zone, a diplomatic enclave which houses important state-owned buildings including the Prime Minister House, President House and the Supreme Court. The crown prince -- who is accompanied by a coterie of officials from the Saudi Royal family, key ministers, and leading businessmen -- is expected to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues during meetings with the president, the prime minister, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The Saudi royal will also attend a dinner at the PM House on Sunday night and a luncheon at the Presidential Palace on Monday. He will co-chair with PM Khan meetings of joint working groups in many sectors including energy, trade and media on Monday. “A delegation of Pakistan’s Senate will also call on the crown prince to discuss ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two countries,” the Foreign Office said in a statement, adding that Saudi ministers would meet their counterparts to discuss bilateral cooperation in their respective fields. "On the sidelines of the visit, the businessmen of the two countries will meet to discuss opportunities for collaboration in the private sector,” the statement read. “The visit...will significantly enhance bilateral ties between the two countries in all spheres of cooperation,” the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. США возвратили в Египет позолоченный саркофаг древнего жреца

Прокуратура Манхэттена более полутора лет вела расследование обстоятельств сделки, заключенной в 1971 году, в ходе которого египетская сторона сумела подтвердить право собственности на памятник древности, а также доказать, что у посредника-антиквариата была фальшивая лицензия на право вывоза экспонатов из страны.
