A 55-year-old man was arrested on Friday (July 31) for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft in Bedok. The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a case of housebreaking at about 4.06am on Friday. The incident took place at a temple along Bedok North Avenue 3, where cash of $390 was stolen from the donation boxes.Officers from Bedok Police Division established the man’s identity through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from closed-circuit television (CCTV) and police cameras.According to the police, the suspect was arrested within three hours of the report being lodged, and cash amounting to $290 was recovered.Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was believed to be linked to two unreported cases of housebreaking and theft at the same temple where $1,965 in cash was stolen.The 55-year-old will be charged with the offence of housebreaking and theft on Saturday. If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to ten years, and with caning or fine. [[nid:741666]]editor@asiaone.com

GENEVA: The president of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, met with UNESCO Director General Khaled El-Enany in Geneva. The meeting took place during the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, held on the sidelines of the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva. The two reviewed strategic cooperation between the Kingdom and UNESCO in AI and discussed ways to strengthen international partnerships in developing ethical policies for the technology.

JEDDAH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence Helen McEntee in Jeddah on Tuesday.  The ministers reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of sectors to expand the Saudi-Irish partnership and advance shared interests, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X.

RIYADH: The Kingdom strongly condemned Iran on Tuesday for targeting the Saudi tanker Wedyan as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. It also condemned Iran for targeting Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker Al-Rekayyat and said these “unacceptable attacks” constitute an assault on the security and safety of international navigation and on the security of global energy supplies. Saudi Arabia said it held Iran fully responsible for the attacks and their repercussions.
