A workshop with the view of promoting quality education and enhancing the competitiveness of students in Anseba region has been conducted in Hagaz town. Keren, 30 November 2018 – A workshop with the view of promoting quality education and enhancing the competitiveness of students in Anseba region has been conducted in Hagaz town. At the workshop in which heads of education at the sub zonal level and supervisors participated, representative of the head of the Ministry of Education branch in Anseba region, Mr. Mehammed-Omer Abdela presented a speech and called on teachers and heads of schools to improve and strengthen their working method with the view of strengthening the quality of education and reminded parents, teachers, and students to integrated their tripartite relations. Head of basic education and adult education in the region, Ms. Abrehet Gebre on her part, reminded teachers to shoulder responsibility of nurturing students well equipped with knowledge and values of their society. Head of secondary schools in the region, Mr. Teklesembet Zerai stated the significance of enhancing the tripartite relation and introducing advanced administration in education in ensuring and promoting quality education. Participants on their part underscoring the significance of the workshop in ensuring and promoting quality education expressed conviction to strengthen effort to that end.

The festival was officially opened by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on 28 November. Minister Osman Saleh accompanied by Ms. Weini Gerezgiher, Charge d’Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in Riyadh, Col. Melake Teklemariam, Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Navy, and other Embassy officials visited photo, cultural artifacts and innovation exhibitions staged by the students of the Eritrean International School in Riyadh and members of the YPFDJ. Indicating that the Eritrean people paid heavy sacrifice for independence and safeguarding national sovereignty, Ms. Weini said that the Eritrean people as in past will emerge victorious in building prosperous nation. Ms. Weini went on to say that the annual festival will have significant contribution in solidifying unity among the Eritrean people and expressed appreciation to those that worked for the realization of the event. The chairman of the Eritrean community in Riyadh, Mr. Abdurahman Imam on his part said that this year’s festival is unique for it is being celebrated at the time of peace and friendship prevailing in the region. At the festival, Minister Osman Saleh handed over prizes to winners in various competitions and certificates of recognition to individuals for outstanding contribution. The festival was highlighted by artistic and cultural performance as well as various sports and general knowledge competitions.

According to report, Mr. Yohannes Tesfamicael, Eritrean Ambassador to South Sudan, met and held talks with the South Sudan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nyal Deng Nyal on the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. The two sides discussed on developing the historical and brotherly relations of the peoples of the two countries and on priority developmental sectors. Likewise, Eritrean nationals residing in Angola held discussion on the progress of the peace and cooperation in the region and contributed 6,565 thousand Dollars towards martyrs trust fund. The Eritrean Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa and Southern African countries, Mr. Saleh Omar and the chairmen of the Eritrean communities in Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe congratulated the Eritrean people in connection with the lifting of the unwarranted sanction that was imposed on Eritrea. They also said that the lifting of the sanctions was the result of the unwavering stance and resilience of the people and Government of Eritrea. In the same vein, Eritrean nationals in Bologna celebrated the lifting of sanctions that was imposed on Eritrea and expressed commitment to strengthen participation in the national development drives. According to the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, Eritrean nationals in Luzon, Switzerland, contributed 10 thousand Dollars in support of families of martyrs.

Indicating that the political and diplomatic achievements registered are the result of the unity and steadfastness of the Eritrean people and its leadership, Mr. Saleh called on the youth to increase their awareness and demonstrate readiness in the success of the national development drives. Mr. Saleh also called on the youth to strengthen organizational capacity and adhere to the noble societal values. Likewise, similar seminar was also organized for the junior and secondary school students in Tesenei. Speaking at the event, Mr. Estifanos Habtemariam, Eritrean Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, said that the fact that the Eritrean people emerged victorious against colonialists and their supporters and in safeguarding the national sovereignty attests to the unity and steadfastness of the people. Indicating that the current peace and friendship environment stimulates the Eritrean people to build economically strong country, Ambassador Estifanos expressed expectation that the Eritrean people will repeat the miracle demonstrated during the armed struggle for independence and in safeguarding the national sovereignty in the nation building process. At the seminar, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Mahmud, Chairman of the National Committee, and Ambassador Peter Ford representing friends of Eritrea delivered messages of congratulations. The participants on their part expressed conviction to strengthen contribution in the national development drives. Ambassador Estifanos also handed over certificates of recognition to national organizations and associations for outstanding contribution.

Asmara, 27 November 2018- The Ministry of Tourism organized tour to the historical buildings of Asmara and the landscape at Dirfo and its environs to the delegates and heads of African Cycling Confederation as well as coaches and cyclists that took part at the African Cycling Cup 2018. The tour was attended by the delegates, coaches and cyclists form Ethiopia, Egypt, Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, Seychelles and Nigeria. Expressing their admiration for the peace and stability they observed in Eritrea and the hospitality and love of the cycling sport of the Eritrean people, Mr. Ahmed Beshir from the African Cycling Confederation and coach of the South African National Team, Ms. Joy Wachiku said that Eritrea could play leading role in the development of the cycling sport in the African continent in general and in the region in particular. Member of the Ethiopian Cycling Confederation, Mr. Zewdu Fantu on his part expressed approbation for the candid organization of the competition.

Asmara, 26 November 2018- The National Association of the Mentally and Physically impaired conducted its third congress on 24 November here in the capital Asmara. Speaking at the congress, the Honorary Chairman of the association, Mr. Kiflai Gebremicael said that since its establishment before eight years the association has made significant progress in putting the foundation for improving the lives of the members of the association. Mr. Kiflai went on to say that in the past eight years the association has conducted commendable activities in increasing the understanding of the public on the need and in avoiding the backward attitude on the mentally and physically impaired citizens. Indicating that the issue of the mentally and physically impaired citizens is social concern of the Government, family members and the public, Mr. Mehreteab Feshaye, D.G. of Social Security at the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare, said that strong effort is being conducted to ensure the welfare of the mentally and physically impaired children. Let. Col. Berhane Bokretsion, Chairman of the Association, presented four years activity report of the association. The participants conducted extensive discussion on the report presented and adopted recommendations. The National Association of the Mentally and Physically Impaired was established in 2010 and has about 4 thousand members.

Asmara, 26 November 2018 - A five weeks training on Cartographic Information Systems (CIS) was provided to 44 members of the Ministry of Agriculture branch in Serejaka sub zone. At a graduation ceremony conducted on 22 November, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture stated that the training will have significant contribution in compiling data and gathering information and thereby enhancing production and productivity. Calling on the trainees to upgrade the knowledge they have acquired through practice and transfer to their colleagues, Minister Arefaine expressed the Ministry’s readiness to supply them with the necessary materials and organizing similar trainings. The Managing Director in the Central region, Mr. Zerit Teweldeberhan on his part, stating the significance of the training in raising productivity and production, called on the trainees to apply them in their work places. The trainees on their part called for provision of computers, and the inclusion of members outside the headquarters to be involved in similar trainings that the Ministry organizes.

Eritrean Men’s Elite and under 23 Cycling National team won the road race that was conducted today, 25 November in the streets of Asmara. Asmara, 25 November 2018- Eritrean Men’s Elite and under 23 Cycling National team won the road race that was conducted today, 25 November in the streets of Asmara. In the men’s road race that covers 161 km Sirak Tesfom, Dawit Yemane and Daniel Habtemicael all members of the Eritrean National team won Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. Sirak Tesfom became the cup winner of the Africa Cycling Cup 2018. In the under 23 men’s category Dawit Yemane, Daniel Habtemicael and Robel Tewolde again members of the Eritrean National Team snatched Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. In the women’s road race that covered 80.5 km, Matthee Maroesjka, member of South African national team, Ese Lovina, member of Nigerian National Team and Tsega Gebre, member of the Ethiopian National Team won Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively.  The winners of women’s under 23 category were Ese Lovina from Nigerian National Team, Berhan Fkadu from Ethiopian National Team and Tigisti Gebrehiwet from Eritrean National Team won Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. At the Africa Cycling Cup 2018 that the National Teams of Eritrea, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, Benin, Uganda and Seychelles took part Eritrea shined with 10 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.

Indicating that the community magistrates have been established to provide timely and efficient legal service to the public and to ensure social justice, Ms. Fauzia Hashim, Minister of Justice, said that sustainable assessment activities have been conducted with a view to strength their activity. Pointing out that priority has been given to ensure the basic pillars of justice including the provision of open, equitable, timely and efficient as well free and accountable legal service to the public, Minister Fauzia gave extensive briefing on the program to exerted with a view to strengthen the capacity of the selected judges. Minister Fauzia underlined that justice is not to be left for professionals only and called on the public to shoulder the responsibility in ensuring social justice. The participants on their part conducted extensive discussion on the proposal presented and adopted recommendations.

In the ‘Criterium Stage’ of the African Cycling Cup 2018 competition, South Africa and Ethiopia snatched Gold Medals for elite/under 23 Women's Competition respectively while Eritrea won both Gold Medals for elite/under 23 Men's competition. Asmara, 24 November 2018 - In the ‘Criterium Stage’ of the African Cycling Cup 2018 competition, South Africa and Ethiopia snatched Gold Medals for elite/under 23 Women's Competition respectively while Eritrea won both Gold Medals for elite/under 23 Men's competition. The ‘Criterium Stage’ conducted in the morning hours of today, 24 November covered 34.4km. According to report, at the Women's Elite competition, Sanet Coetzee member of the South African national team won Gold while Tsega Gebru member of the Ethiopian national team and Margesjka Matthee member of the South African national team are forced to settle for Silver and Bronze medals respectively. From Women's under 23 competition, Eden Bekele from Ethiopian national team won Gold, Znab Ftsum and Diana Dawit both members of Eritrean national team settled for Silver and Bronze respectively. From the Elite Men category, Sirak Tesfom from the Eritrean national team won Gold, and Henok Mulubrhan from Eritrea Silver, and Samuel Mugisha from Rwandan national team won bronze medal. In Men's under 23 category, Henok Mulubrhan from Eritrean national team, Samuel Mugisha from Rwandan national team and Redwan Salih from the Ethiopian national team won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. From the three stages competition, the Eritrean national team won a total of 8 Gold Medals, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze. Ethiopia has won 1Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze; and South Africa 1 Gold and 3 Silver and Rwanda 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals. The final stage of the African Cycling Cup 2018 which is the first of its kind will be conducted tomorrow, Sunday 25 November. Eri-TV will live broadcast the final stage of the competition.

The festival was officially opened by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs accompanied with the Eritrean General Consul in Jeddah, Mr. Abdurahman Osman and other officials. Indicating that the annual festival is an occasion in which nationals demonstrate their unity and strengthen organizational capacity and transfer the noble societal values to the young generation, Mr. Abdurahman Osman expressed appreciation that worked and contributed for the realization of the festival. The festival was highlighted by innovation and pictorial exhibition staged by the students of the Eritrean International School and YPFDJ, artifacts displays and cultural food by the NUEW branch in Jeddah, fashion show, artistic and cultural performances as well as other entertaining programs. Awards were also handed over to winners in various competitions. The participants underlined that the annual festival is unique for its being held at the time in which peace is prevailing in the region and the lifting of the unwarranted sanctions that has been imposed on Eritrea. In the 2nd stage of the African Cycling Cup 2018 Time Trial Eritrean cyclists in both men and female categories won gold medals. Asmara, 22 November 2018- In the 2nd stage of the African Cycling Cup 2018 Time Trial Eritrean cyclists in both men and female categories won gold medals. From the men category Sirak Tesfom, Aron Debretsion and Daniel Habremicael members of the Eritrean national team won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. From the females category Adiam Tesfa’alem member of the Eritrean national team won Gold medal while Mihret Gebreyohannes member of the Ethiopian national team and Liezel Jordaan member of the South African national team settled for Silver and Bronze medals respectively. The African Cycling Cup 2018 which is the first of its kind will be conducted until Sunday, 25 November.

The measles and rubella vaccination program and distribution of Vitamin A was officially launched today 21 November at a ceremony conducted at the Asmara Community Hospital in the presence of senior government officials.   Asmara, 21 November 2018-  The measles and rubella vaccination program and distribution of Vitamin A was officially launched today 21 November at a ceremony conducted at the Asmara Community Hospital in the presence of senior government officials. Speaking at the event, Ms. Amina Nur-Husein, Minister of Health noted that vaccination is one of the important clinical and health services and that vaccination program for children is one of the main pillars in nurturing healthy society and building prosperous country. Minister Amina went on to say that Eritrea has gained international recognition for conducting successful vaccination programs. Indicating that there are 285 permanent and 385 provisional vaccination centers across the nation, Minister Amina said that vaccination program coverage has reached to 95% and that the launching of the measles and rubella vaccination program is part of the effort to ensure the health of the citizens. Pointing out that the achievements already registered attest to the commitment of the Government of Eritrea, Dr. Josephine Namboze, WHO Representative in Eritrea, appreciated the successful health provision activities and expressed readiness to cooperate with the ministry in all its endeavors. The measles and rubella vaccination program and distribution of Vitamin A is expected to cover over 1.5 million children.

In accordance with the Peace Agreement reached between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Ogaden Liberation Front on 21 October in Asmara, the ONLF departed to Ethiopia to pursue its political activities through peaceful means. Asmara, 21 November 2018- In accordance with the Peace Agreement reached between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Ogaden Liberation Front on 21 October in Asmara, the ONLF departed to Ethiopia to pursue its political activities through peaceful means. The agreement reached between the two sides included that the they end hostilities towards each other, the ONLF to pursue its political objectives through peaceful means, with assurances that the FDRE will respect and uphold the provisions of its constitution as well as to establish joint committee to further discuss substantive issues pertaining to the root causes of the conflict in the region through continuous engagement inside the country. The agreement between the FDRE and ONLF was signed by Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the Ethiopian side and by Admiral Mohammed-Omar Osman, Chairman of ONLF. The ONLF members indicated that the objective of their movement was to ensure justice and that they are departing home encouraged by the new positive development in Ethiopia. It is to be recalled that the Tigray People’s Democratic Movement (TPDM), Arbegnoch Ginbot 7, Benshangul People’s Democratic Movement, Oromo Liberation Front and the Amhara Democratic Movement Forces signed similar agreement with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Eritrea’s Men & Women National Cycling Teams won Team Time Trial (TTT) Gold Medals respectively in the 1st stage of Africa Cycling Cup 2018 that rolled off today. According to report, Team Ethiopia and South Africa are forced to settle Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the women’s TTT whereas Rwanda and Ethiopia finished second and third in the men’s category.   Asmara, 21 November 2018 – Eritrea’s Men & Women National Cycling Teams won Team Time Trial (TTT) Gold Medals respectively in the 1st stage of Africa Cycling Cup 2018 that rolled off today. According to report, Team Ethiopia and South Africa are forced to settle Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the women’s TTT whereas Rwanda and Ethiopia finished second and third in the men’s category. Eight African National Teams consist of Benin, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles & South Africa are participating at the first of its kind African Cup Cycling competition. Individual Time Trial (ITT) of the Africa Cycling Cup 2018 will be conducted tomorrow 22 November. The Eritrean Cycling Federation in cooperation with the African Cycling Confederation is hosting African Cup Cycling competition that will continue 25 November.

In a speech he delivered, Mr. Mihreteab Fessehaye, D.G. of Human Welfare at the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare calling on the public to nurture, maintain and bequeath the rich national culture of child fostering, said that the Day reminds teachers and parents to integrate their effort in the development of the children and shoulder their responsibilities to that effect. Mr. Mihreteab further stated that the Government of Eritrea is working to promote and celebrate children's rights and safety, ever since it signed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child on the down of the Eritrean independence. Noting strong effort is being exerted to enhance the awareness of the people of Eritrea on the Rights of the Child, Dr. Peare Gnom, UNICEF representative in Eritrea commended the actions the Government of Eritrea is taking to build a better world for Children including vaccination programs being undertaken to ensure child health and safety, effort to ensure that every child is in school, monetary and material support provided to disadvantaged children, as well the effort being exerted to eradicate harmful practices and underage marriages among others. The International Children’s Day celebration was highlighted by children’s songs, drama, and artistic performances. Indicating that the priority effort of the Ministry is to strengthen the capacity of the community magistrates, Minister Fauzia said that commendable activities have been conducted to reinforce work relations and to introduce modern information system. Indicating that labor is a process in which humans strive to satisfy their material and spiritual satisfaction and that involves material production and services, Ms. Leul said that the labor force equipped with skill and education has significant opportunity for becoming productive. Indicating that antibiotics medicines are important elements in the modern medical world, Ms. Amina Nur-Husein, Minister of health, said that improper application and over dosage of antibiotic medicines would be terribly life threatening. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe pointed out that the concerned international institutions are engaged with integrated efforts to ensure the health of humankind and that increasing the understanding of those engaged in the animal and vegetables health has significant contribution in the process. Delivering the message of WHO, Dr. Josephine Namboze, Representative of WHO in Eritrea, said that expired anti-biotic medicines cause serious danger in the health of patients and called for integrated effort to avoid the mishaps. Asmara, 09 November 2018- President Isaias Afwerki departed to the Federal Democratic of Ethiopia for two-day working visit today, 9 November, at an invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. Upon arrival at the Gonder Airport, President Isaias was accorded warm welcome by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Demeke Mokennen, President of the Amhara region, Mr. Gedu Andargachew, Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide as well as a number of Ethiopian officials, religious leaders and renowned individuals. President Isaias Afwerki and President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed, who is also on a similar visit to Ethiopia, accompanied by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed passed through the streets of Gonder city amidst exuberant reception by city residents. The International Day of Bacteria will be observed nationwide from 12 to 18 November with a view to increase public understanding of the application of antibiotic medicine. The initiative is being organized by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture. Asmara, 02 November 2018-  The International Day of Bacteria will be observed nationwide from 12 to 18 November with a view to increase public understanding of the application of antibiotic medicine. The initiative is being organized by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture. The campaign will feature several messages, including, “Antibiotic medicine does not cure diseases caused by bacteria”, “Don’t share antibiotic medicine prescribed to you with others”, and “Antibiotic medicine doesn’t cure all diseases”. Indicating that the campaign aims to increase public awareness about the safe usage of antibiotic, Mr. Eyasu Bahta, head of the National Medicine and Food Administration at the Ministry of Health, said that the program will be conducted at schools and health facilities, as well as through the mass media. Mr. Afwerki Mehreteab, head of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the campaign also aims to help farmers ensure the health of livestock through the application of proper medication.
