Asmara, 18 June 2018- Eritrean nationals in South Sudan and the US have commemorated Martyrs Day with patriotic zeal. The Eritrean community members in Juba, South Sudan commemorated the Martyrs Day with activities depicting the progress of the national development endeavors and the heroic feat demonstrated by the fallen heroes. The event was attended by more than two thousand nationals accompanied with marching band. Indicating that the Eritrean independence has unique meaning for the Eritrean people paid heavy human and material sacrifice for its realization, the Eritrean Ambassador to the South Sudan, Mr. Yohannes Teklemicael said that 20 June, Martyrs Day, is a reminder in which the Eritrean people renew pledge to live up to the martyrs expectations. The Chairman of the Eritrean community, Mr. Habtom Zeray pointed out that supporting the families of the fallen heroes is the responsibility if every citizen. Likewise, Eritrean nationals residing in Denver, Colorado, commemorated the Martyrs Day with candle vigil. In the same vein, Eritrean nationals residing in San-Jose, California, commemorated the Martyrs Day with patriotic zeal.

A total of 4.3 billion Nakfa has been expended to the families of the martyrs in the last 14 years, Mr. Zerai Tekleab, the director of the Welfare branch in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare indicated. Asmara, 19 June 2017 - A total of 4.3 billion Nakfa has been expended to the families of the martyrs in the last 14 years, Mr. Zerai Tekleab, the director of the Welfare branch in the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare indicated. Mr. Zerai stated that in line with proclamation 137/2003 the families of martyrs are provided with financial support 4 times in a year in 1-5 permanent centers in every region and a total of 37 mobile sites. Documents of the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare indicate that according to the program that started in 2004, government makes an expenditure of 350 million Nakfa annually to assist martyrs' families and that 85 thousand families have become beneficiaries of the program. Apart from the regular financial support, vocational trainings are also provided to the families of the martyrs and that beneficiaries are offered with material support to help them start businesses and that encouraging outcome have been registered, Mr. Zerai underscored. Pointing out that assisting the families of martyrs is one of the values of the Eritrean people, Mr. Zerai stated that in addition to the support provided by the Government, Eritreans inside the country and abroad have been extending financial support and that they have contributed over 1.2 million Nakfa to augment martyrs’ trust fund.

Eritrean nationals in Israel and the Netherlands contributed a total of 19,650 dollars and 7 thousand Euros in support of war-disabled veterans. Asmara, 16 June 2018 -  Eritrean nationals in Israel and the Netherlands contributed a total of 19,650 dollars and 7 thousand Euros in support of war-disabled veterans. A report by the Eritrean Embassy in Israel indicated that the nationals contributed 19,650 Dollars for the rehabilitation of 20 war-disabled female veterans. Ms. Tirhas Semere who lives in the Dutch city of Rotterdam contributed different materials worth 7 thousand Euros to 33 war-disabled female veterans residing at the Denden Camp. The Chairman of the National Association of Eritrean War Disabled Veterans, Mr. Gebrebrhan Eyasu, commended the contribution by Ms. Tirhas in support of the female war disabled veterans. Commending the sustainable support being extended by the government and the citizenry, the beneficiary veterans said that such support attests to the respect of the Eritrean people towards the war-disabled nationals.

Asmara, 16 June 2018 -  Eritrean nationals residing in Germany, the USA and Australia have conducted activities featuring programs depicting their attachment with the homeland. Reports indicated that the National Committee in Germany conducted a two-year activity assessment meeting and adopted resolutions that will have significant impact in strengthening their activities. The Charge d’Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy, Mr. Yohannes Woldu, commended the effort made by the National Committee to enhance the awareness of nationals and expressed the Embassy’s readiness to back their endeavors. Noting that the committee is living up to expectation, the Chairman of the committee, Dr. Tesfai Ablelom, explained that increased effort would be exerted to encourage the participation of the youth. Similarly, the YPFDJ branch German held a conference in Frankfurt during which an activity report was presented and an executive committee elected for a two-year term. Eritrean nationals in Cologne city also participated at the annual cultural festival organized by the city Municipality featuring programs highlighting the culture of the Eritrean people, the nation’s tourism resources and the unity in diversity of the Eritrean people. Likewise, members of the YPFDJ and the National Union of Eritrean Women in Southern USA held a conference in Dallas with a view to strengthening organizational capacity and participation in national development endeavors. In a related report, the Eritrean General Consul in Australia, Mr. Mehari Tekeste, conducted seminar to the heads of national organizations in the cities of Perth and Brisbane focusing on the objective situation in the homeland and implementation of charted out programs.

At the celebration held at the Bahti Meskerem Square here in Asmara in which senior Government and PFDJ, members of the Diplomatic Corps, religious leaders and a number of the faithful took part, salat led by Sheik Salem Ibrahim Al Muktar, General Secretary of the Central Office of Eritrean Eftae ad Islamic Affairs, was conducted. Speaking at the event, Sheik Ibrahim gave briefing on the meaning of the Ramadan fasting and congratulated the Eritrean people in general and the followers of the Islamic faith in particular and the Eritrean Defense Forces. Sheik Ibrahim also said the Eritrean Independence has been realized through the heavy human and material sacrifice of its people and that safeguarding the national sovereignty is the responsibility of every citizen. He also called on citizens to strengthen their unity and harmony.

The Ministry of Health organized a workshop on non-communicable diseases from 12 to 13 June with the objective to increase the understanding of the stakeholders on the status of the diseases and conduct integrated effort in controlling them. Speaking at the event, Dr. Andebrhan Tesfatsion, Acting Director General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, indicated that the non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular, cancer, asthma, diabetics and others have been for long health concerns worldwide. Dr. Andebrhan reiterated that the objective of the workshop is to establish a committee that will oversee and coordinate the effort to control and eradicated the non-communicable diseases. At the workshop briefings were given on the causes, symptoms and characters of the diseases. The medical practitioners at the Orrota Referral Hospital called for regular medical checkup in a bid to know ones health status, policy on prohibiting smoking at public areas, sustainable awareness raising campaigns on the causes and consequences of non-communicable diseases, putting in place safety procedures at work places as well as stopping traditional medications against the diseases. Indicating that the non-communicable diseases are 70% associated with daily lives of people, Mr. Tesfaledet Woldeab from the Public Health at the Ministry of Health, called for active participation of all stakeholders in the effort to control and eradicate the diseases.

Asmara, 13 June 2018 –  The Department of Tourism in Southern region organized a week-long seminar on the prevention of communicable diseases with particular focus on HIV/AIDS in Dekemhare city. The organizer of the seminar, Sister Alganesh from Dekemhare Hospital briefed the participants on the causes and effects of sexually transmitted diseases and stated that the aim of the seminar was to enhance the awareness of waiters and ensure the health of the society. Speaking at the event, the Director General of the Department of Tourism in Southern region, Ms. Asmeret Abraha, called on the participants to contribute their due part in bringing behavioral change in their work place through applying the knowledge they have acquired. In related news, a four-month vocational training has been provided to 145 youth including 65 females in Dekemhare sub-zone. The administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Yemane Abera, called on the trainees to become role models and agents of change in their areas.

In its 19th commencement, the Mai-Habar Technical School graduated 179 students including 46 females with certificate. The students attended two years theoretical and practical education in the fields of Construction, Design, Electricity, Plumber, General Steel and Wood Work, Electronics and Survey. Indicating that the students have also provided mechanical drawing and computer training, the Director of the school, Mr. Wehab Mohammed-Ali called on the graduates to take the training they were provided as a stepping stone for upgrading their skills through practical application on the ground. The D. G. of Technical and Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Tesfai Seium said that the investment made on education is the priority of the Government in the nation building process and called on the graduates to live up to expectations and contribute their part in the national development endeavors. The Mai-Habar Technical School has so far graduated 4166 students in various fields of study.  

In a bid to augment the blood reserve of the National Blood Transfusion Center, the Adi-Keih Colleges of Arts and Social Science and Business and Economics students and lecturers voluntarily donated blood. Mendefera, 12 June 2018 – In a bid to augment the blood reserve of the National Blood Transfusion Center, the Adi-Keih Colleges of Arts and Social Science and Business and Economics students and lecturers voluntarily donated blood. According to Mr. Mehari Abraham, head of the National Blood Transfusion Center, the process of  blood donation was conducted from 4-8 June in both colleges and that 363 units of blood has been collected. Stating the center’s mission is to augment blood supply to health facilities, Mr. Mehari said that the blood donated is disbursed to 22 hospitals in accordance with their demands. The voluntary blood donors pledged to continue donations as it creates spiritual satisfaction to see patients survive because of the blood voluntarily donated. Members of the National Blood Transfusion Center on their part commending the students and lecturers for the initiative they took to voluntarily donate blood, indicated that 75% of the donors were female students.

Youth in the civil service and students in the Senafe sub-zone are undertaking soil and water conservation activities. Senafe, 11 June 2018- Youth in the civil service and students in the Senafe sub-zone are undertaking soil and water conservation activities. The head of the Forestry and Wildlife Resources at the sub-zone, Mr. Girmai Seium said that the landscape of Senafe is susceptible for erosion and that the popular campaign is significantly contributing in redressing the environment and controlling erosion. He further said that the popular campaign is mainly focusing on construction of terraces and water diversion schemes as well as planting tree seedlings. The soil and water conservation activity by the youth in the civil service and students that is led by agricultural experts is part of the charted out programs in the sub-zone, Mr. Girmai added. The participants on their part indicated that the program will also include construction and maintenance of dirt roads and planting tree seedlings. Likewise, the residents of the 22 administrative areas in the Senafe sub-zone are also conducting similar popular campaigns in their respective areas.

Reports indicate that the students pursued 2 year courses in four fields of study and that 22 of students have graduated in Agro-Mechanic, 37 in Animal Science, 37 in Plant Science and 32 others in Soil and Water Conservation and Irrigation Development. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the head of the school Brother Isaias Tsegay stating that strong effort has been exerted with the objective of equipping students with knowledge and discipline, commended the interest the students demonstrated during their stay in the school. The D.G. of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Tesfay Siyum on his part, commending the contribution of the Hagaz Agriculture and Technical School in the development of human resources, called on the students to upgrade their knowledge in practice and play due role in the national development drives. Documents indicate that Hagaz Agriculture and Technical School has so far graduated a total of 2,417 students, 873 of whom are females.

The Massawa College of Marine Science and Technology graduated 94 students including 26 females on 8 June with degree and diploma. Asmara, 10 June 2018- The Massawa College of Marine Science and Technology graduated 94 students including 26 females on 8 June with degree and diploma. Speaking at the occasion of the 11th commencement of the graduation, Mr. Tewolde Kelati, Minister of Marine Resources, said that the College is graduating students at a time the Government is giving utmost priority to the development of marine resources of the country. Minister Tewolde reiterated that the Government is making huge investment in the development of human resources and that the College of Marine Science and Technology is conducting commendable effort towards that. Indicating that the College is providing education to about 230 students in degree program and more that 130 in diploma, the Dean of the College, Dr. Zekaria Abdulkerim said that the participation of female students has reached to 50%. Dr. Zekaria pointed out that the college is conducting relentless effort both on provision of quality education and the production more human resources that could play due role in the nation building process. Dr. Zekaria also called on the graduates to apply the knowledge they acquired into practice. Representative of the graduates reiterated readiness to live up to expectations. The Massawa College of Marine Science and Technology was set up in 2005 and has so far graduated more than 1500 students.

The nationals who came from the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and other countries visited the Massawa Plastic Factory, the Free Zone in Massawa, Gahetelai dam, Massawa International Airport, Massawa Cement Factory, Massawa Port, College of Science and Technology, Northern Red Sea Museum and other developmental sites in the region. Noting that they are proud to witness the progress of the development programs in the country, the visitors called on their fellow nationals abroad to witness first-hand the development activities taking place in the homeland. In the course of their visit, the nationals from diaspora were given briefing from experts of respective developmental sites they visited.

Asmara, 07 June 2018 - Eritrean nationals in Israel and Angola celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary enthusiastically under the theme “Vision through Toil”. In Israel thousands of nationals celebrated the Independence Day anniversary featuring various programs depicting the unity and the love they have towards their country. Speaking at the event, the Charge d’Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in Israel, Mr. Solomon Kinfe stating that the Independence of Eritrea is the result of the heroic feat demonstrated by the Eritrean people during the armed struggle, said that building economically developed country is the responsibility of all nationals. The participants on their part expressed resolve to strengthen national unity and participate in nation building process. They also said that the manner by which they celebrate national holidays attest to the unity in diversity of the Eritrean people. Likewise, the Eritrean nationals residing in the Angolan cities of Luanda, Benguela and Lubango have celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal. At the event, the Eritrean Ambassador to South Africa and the Southern African countries, Mr. Saleh Omer expressed pride upon seeing nationals residing in various countries celebrate Independence Day anniversary with one tone and patriotic zeal. The chairman of the Eritrean community in Angola, Mr. Yacob Solomon called for strengthening organizational capacity and participation in the implementation of national development drives. In related news, the Organization of Eritrean Women in Europe conducted its six-month activity assessment meeting on June 3 in the Italian city of Milan. At the meeting, assessment was conducted on the implemented programs and their progress, on the strengths and weaknesses encountered as well as on future programs. The Chairwoman of NUEW in Europe, Ms. Ngisti Tsegay, secretary of the organization, Ms. Mliete Toweldemedhin gave briefings on domestic conflict resolution, on gender equality and the rights of women as well as on the challenges women could encounter and their solutions.

The National Union of Eritrean Youths and Students (NUEYS) indicated that the 8th National Youth Festival will be conducted from 13 to 15 July in Sawa under the theme “Youth: The Vigor of Sustainable Development”. Sawa, 06 June 2018- The National Union of Eritrean Youths and Students (NUEYS) indicated that the 8th National Youth Festival will be conducted from 13 to 15 July in Sawa under the theme “Youth: The Vigor of Sustainable Development”.The Coordinator of the festival, Mr. Robel Kebede, said that the event will take place in conjunction with the graduation of members of the 31st round and would feature innovation and creativity of the youth, the role of the Union over the past 40 years in organizing and nurturing the youth as well as their contribution in the struggle for independence, safeguarding national sovereignty and in the nation-building process. Mr. Robel added that the festival will also feature popular campaigns, cultural and sports programs, seminars, exhibition and other activities relevant to issues of the youth.He further indicated that a number of awards including the “Soira”, “Sawa” and “Innovation and Creativity” will be handed to the youths who demonstrated excellence in their contribution towards the success of programs of the Union, in addition for outstanding role in innovation and creativity, besides to students who completed High School education abroad.At the festival that is conducted for every two years, 20 thousand youths from inside the country and 1,500 others from the Diaspora will take part.The three-day 8th Festival is expected to solidify unity among the youths from inside the country and the Diaspora in addition to sharing experience among one other.

Keren, 04 June 2018 – The National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans branch in the Anseba region provided micro credit worth 450 thousands of Nakfa to 30 war disabled females. At the handing over ceremony conducted on 30 May in Keren city, the head of the branch Mr. Dawit Gebrekiristos stated that the program was in continuation of the programs being conducted to enhance the socio-economic capacity of its members, and that the microcredit program will continue to be provided to war disabled veterans throughout the region. Indicating that each disabled veteran was provided with 15 thousand Nakfa each and is aimed at making the veterans be able to become self supportive, Mr. Dawit said that the progress that the beneficiaries will register will have significant impact on the continuity and sustainability of the program and called on the beneficiaries to make utmost usage of the opportunity provided. The D.G. of Tourism in the Anseba region and member of the council of the National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans, Mr. Salim Ali on his part, called on the beneficiaries to take advantage of the microcredit opportunities, improve their livelihoods and ensure their future. The National Association of the Eritrean War Disabled Veterans branch in the Anseba region has 2 thousand registered members.

A workshop on fresh water fish farming was organized on 31 May in keren city by the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the Anseba region. Keren, 02 June 2018- A workshop on fresh water fish farming was organized on 31 May in keren city by the Ministry of Agriculture branch in the Anseba region. The director of Land and Agriculture in the region, Mr. Bahta Tedros indicated that the objective of the workshop is to enable stakeholders have understanding on the effort being exerted to develop fresh water fish farming so that they strengthen participation in the endeavor. Mr. Bahta reiterated that in the Anseba region there are 16 dams and that the three types of fishes being farmed at the 12 dams are in good condition. At the workshop three research papers on fresh water fish farming, project of marine resources management and policy of the Ministry of Marine Resources were presented. Speaking at the event, the Governor of the Anseba region, Mr. Ali Mahmud underlined that fresh water fish farming will have significant contribution in ensuring food security and improving the lives of citizens living in rural areas and called for organizing awareness raising and training programs for farmers in a bid to expand the activity in all dams and micro-dams in the region.

Asmara, 02 June 2018- The National Insurance Corporation of Eritrea (NICE) held its 14th regular meeting of shareholders at the Hotel Asmara Palace on 2 June. The Board Chairman of the Corporation, Mr. Girmai Gebremeskel indicated that the board as the highest body of the corporation has been conducting annual meeting since 2004 and adopting resolutions based on the agendas presented. Mr. Zeru Woldemichael, General Manager of the Corporation, indicated that in 2017 an estimated of 43.4 million Nakfa worth of accidents have occurred and that witnessed the decline by 25% compared to that of 2016. The General Manager further pointed out that the Corporation in 2017 has made 91.8 million Nakfa profit from the total insurance sales and that the board has decided for the distribution of 83.8 million Nakfa to shareholders. The participants conducted extensive discussion on the report presented by the General Manager and on the issues raised at the 13th annual meeting as well as on the charted out future program.

Abel Solomon and Aminadab Yinatan, two under age football talents are set to participate at the Football For Friendship project organized by FIFA in connection with the Russia World Cup 2018. Asmara, 02 June 2018- Abel Solomon and Aminadab Yinatan, two under age football talents are set to participate at the Football For Friendship project organized by FIFA in connection with the Russia World Cup 2018. The project is being organized with a view to bring children from all over the world to share their experiences, traditions and cultures on top of watching the world cup tournament. The initiative for the inclusion of the two Eritrean children was taken in cooperation with FIFA, the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the National Football Federation of Eritrea. According to Mr. Taha Nur Mohammed-Brhan, President of the National Football Federation, the grass root program started in 2012 and currently there are 16 grass root teams from the 16 sub-zones in Asmara and about 250 children are participating. According to the Public Relations officer of the Football Federation in the Central region, Abel and Aminadab, aged 11 to 12 are selected from the more than 250 children taking part at the grass root program. Among the criteria for selection was their talent in football, discipline, punctuality at training and the future prospect they have. The program is expected to motivate the youth talents develop their football  career and become role models to others and thereby contribute in the development of the sport in the country.

Dear Participants and Invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,Allow me to convey, on this momentous day of the 27th anniversary of our Independence, my warmest congratulations to all the people of Eritrea inside the country as well as those who live abroad.   Let me also express my gratitude to all those who have worked hard to organize and embellish this auspicious event.   Dear Participants and Invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,Allow me to convey, on this momentous day of the 27th anniversary of our Independence, my warmest congratulations to all the people of Eritrea inside the country as well as those who live abroad.   Let me also express my gratitude to all those who have worked hard to organize and embellish this auspicious event.The priceless importance and value of liberation and freedom, the significance of sovereignty, augment and gain more luster with time as the years go by.   This does not only engender satisfaction and fulfillment; but it also reinforces our resilience and determination.  The central theme of this year’s celebration is “vision through toil”.  Mankind’s aspiration for liberation and independence is an inalienable right that is enshrined in natural law.  The establishment of an independent nation – i.e. a nation that is economically prosperous; that progresses constantly to a higher level of development; that is endowed with stability and security; that thrives in a neighbourhood of mutual respect and cooperation; in a nutshell, a cohesive nation of citizenship -  is not predicated on sheer and subjective, political good will, alone.   Indeed, it entails a robust heritage rooted in precious sacrifices.  The vision and sacrosanct national right of the Eritrean people for liberation was not bestowed to us as a gift or favour on a silver platter.  It was achieved after 50 long years of arduous toil and unparalleled sacrifices.By the same token, the protection of our independence and sovereignty, or, the crystallization of our vision of national security in the past quarter century, have exacted rigorous work and precious sacrifices – a second testament so to speak – of vision through toil, to confront and overcome all mutations of political and diplomatic subversion, security provocations as well as economic sabotage.  Ladies and Gentlemen,History teaches us that global and regional agendas are factors that have some impact in our national developmental trajectory.  In the event, it is essential that we soberly follow and assess the dynamics of global and regional developments that are unfolding in these turbulent times in order to properly gauge its potential impact on our future programmes.The “Cold –War period”, that span for fifty years from the end of the Second World War until our independence, was characterized by a bi-polar world order.  The chronological developments and features of this period are recorded in our documents and history.  The end of the bi-polar world order – that coincidentally occurred in the same year of our independence – ushered in a uni-polar world order.  The upheavals and devastation inculcated in the past twenty five years are fresh in our memories.  This is indeed a matter of yesterday’s recorded history.   All the indications are that this “uni-polar” world order will not have the predicted longevity.  The turbulences that we are witnessing in global dynamics today can in fact be interpreted as the symptoms of a transitional phase.  Where will this transitional phase end up? How much time will it take? Some analysts postulate that the end result will be a multi-polar world order.  If so, who will be the principal protagonists in the new, global architecture?  The United States?  China?  Russia?  India?  Europe?   What are the potential permutations? What will be the balance of power? What will be the underlying value system?  And how will this affect and influence our region?  These scenarios cannot but provoke a host of questions.We cannot be nostalgic of the bi-polar world order for very palpable reasons.  The indelible fact is we were compelled to pay a hefty price in the period that it lasted.  Nor can we have any love lost to the uni-polar world order of yesterday.  This was, again, a time when our sovereignty was threatened while an unfair and illicit sanctions regime was also imposed on us.  We do not have cogent reasons to cherish a multi-polar world order.  Bi-polar, uni-polar or multi-polar global security architectures are not critical factors in themselves or in abstract terms.  The crucial issue transcends mere numerical configurations.  The fundamental wishes of the peoples of the world; what is determinant at the end of the day, is a global order that is rooted on justice and the respect of the sovereignty of nations; a global order that is free from the rule of the jungle dominated by a greedy few.The damages inculcated on us in the past 75 years by “major global powers”, “regional hegemons” and “surrogates” to advance their perceived agendas and power games are fresh in our minds.  In the event, we need to meticulously gauge future scenarios and emergent agendas (and the possible permutations) that will ensue thereof.  The road map of our national trajectory will have to be charted out taking these factors into account.  In all eventualities, we will not act as mere onlookers with folded hands.  We shall continue to strengthen our readiness for active engagement without any bias.Ladies and Gentlemen,Although we recognize the influence of global and regional developments – irrespective of scale – in our national development, the principal and determinant factor is nonetheless our domestic reality and its robustness.  The extraordinary achievements of the liberation struggle have been repeated and reinforced in the past 25 years of unremitting hostilities.  We have confronted the myriad tentacles of adversity with patience, resilience and strong defiance.  We have not capitulated.  The antagonisms unleashed against us have lost their steam to dissipate into oblivion.  The opportunities that stand before us today are substantial.  We must accordingly brace ourselves physically and mentally to implement robust programmes of our developmental objectives with more vigorous power and greater pace.  This is not an option; it is a necessity.Ladies and Gentlemen,The programmes and projects that we have been pursuing – under the existing circumstances and opportunities – will naturally require further review and refinement for optimal implementation.  And they can be summarized as: o    The strategy of harnessing and harvesting rainfall.  This involves building the necessary water infrastructure through even spatial distribution and in a phased manner in order to ensure optimal utilization of our water, land and climatic resources and endowments with the ultimate aim of increasing agricultural production both in quantitative and qualitative terms through the introduction of modern technology.  o    In marine resources, to pursue a similar strategy to build the requisite infrastructure in order to increase our domestic productive capacity;o    To funnel investment and more vigorous work to the energy sector so as to implement, in a modular manner, our planned schemes of revamping power generation and supply through the right mix of policy choices (thermal, solar, wind and other modalities of alternative energy).   This is critical and indispensable for strengthening our developmental programmes in several sectors and especially for embarking on manufacturing and industrialization, due to its obvious strategic importance, at a fast pace.  o    To increase investment in order to upgrade our domestic resources and capacity for the effective implementation of our  programmes of physical infrastructure; (roads, ports, harbours, airports as well as housing projects that are being implemented at a slow pace);o    To increase public transport both in quality and quantity;o    To pursue the ongoing fiscal and monetary restructuring through more robust and qualitative administrative and managerial inputs;o    To enhance effective and efficient administrative competences by further reviewing and strengthening efforts already underway to address weakness and corrupt practices at various levels of administration;o    To increase integrated investment in our educational system – in terms of curriculum and supportive instruments, teachers/experts, infrastructure and other vital facilities – so as to augment our human capital and its multiplier dimensions through special attention and highest priority;o    To review already charted-out programmes and plans of action to encourage and ensure the participation and contribution of all Eritreans who reside abroad in all our developmental programmes;These are the main priorities of the coming three to five years.Let me underline again that we shall not fail to achieve our vision!Let me also express my wish for a good rainy season!Glory to our Martyrs who taught us much and bolstered our resolve through their example!Victory to the Masses!

Eritrean nationals in Stockholm, Sweden, Oslo, Norway, Brussels, Belgium, Hamburg, Germany, Colorado, USA and Winnipeg, Canada have celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with enthusiasm under the theme “Vision through Toil”. Asmara, 24 May 2018- Eritrean nationals in Stockholm, Sweden, Oslo, Norway, Brussels, Belgium, Hamburg, Germany, Colorado, USA and Winnipeg, Canada have celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with enthusiasm under the theme “Vision through Toil”. The celebrations conducted in Stockholm, Sweden, included sport competitions, cultural and artistic performance and featured activities that highlighted the professional and academic potential of the youth. At the event, Charge d’Affairs of the Eritrean Embassy in the Scandinavian countries, Mr. Yonas Mana presented a speech and congratulated the people of Eritrea and members of the defence forces. Likewise, Eritrean nationals residing in Oslo and its environs, Norway, celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal. At the Independence Day celebration held in Brussels, Belgium, the First Secretary at the Eritrean Embassy at the European Union, Mr. Micheal Tesfai stated that extensive effort has been conducted in the last independence years with the objective of ensuring social justice and implementing the development programs. Nationals residing in Hamburg, Germany, also celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic zeal. At the Independence Day celebrations conducted in Colorado, USA, the Senate of  Colorado and other diplomats that attended the event expressed admiration on the spirit and unity of the Eritrean people in celebrating their independence day. The Eritrean nationals in Winnipeg and its environs, Canada also celebrated Independence Day anniversary featuring various activities portraying the true image of their country.

As part of the ongoing endeavors  to control blindness, eye surgery for  Cataract has been conducted on  more than 400 nationals at Keren  Hospital in cooperation with the  Sudanese Ophthalmologists group. Asmara, 19 May 2018 - As part of the ongoing endeavors  to control blindness, eye surgery for  Cataract  has been conducted on  more than 400 nationals at Keren  Hospital in cooperation with the  Sudanese Ophthalmologists group. The Medical Director of the  hospital, Dr. Yafet Hailemichael,  said that the surgery that was  conducted in cooperation with  Albeser Medical group was aimed at controlling and eradicating the  prevalence of the disease. Mr. Kahsai Seyum, Head of the  Ophthalmology in the hospital,  indicated that the surgery went  successful because the patients  received the treatment on time. Similar eye surgery was  conducted on 325 nationals at Girar  Hospital in Massawa this month.

Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed-Seid,  Secretary of the PFDJ, opened an  art exhibition yesterday organized  by the National Union of Eritrean  Women in connection with the 27th  Independence Day anniversary.  Asmara, 19 May 2018 - Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed-Seid,  Secretary of the PFDJ, opened an  art exhibition yesterday organized  by the National Union of Eritrean  Women in connection with the 27th  Independence Day anniversary. The Head of Administration and  Finance at the NUEW, Ms. Zaid  Mesfin, said that the exhibition features paintings, sculptures,  inventions and modifications,  as part of the activities to  commemorate the Independence  Day anniversary. The exhibition  focuses on highlighting the role  and contribution of Eritrean  women in the nation-building  drive. Ms. Zaid further said that the  exhibition prepared by female  youth s is aimed at strengthening  women participation of in diverse  fields. The exhibition will stay open  to the public until Independence  Day on May 24. 

Reports indicate that Eritrean nationals residing in Demam, Saudi Arabia, Cairo, Egypt, Djibouti and South Sudan have colorfully celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary under the theme “Vision Through Toil”. Asmara, 17 May 2018- Reports indicate that Eritrean nationals residing in Demam, Saudi Arabia, Cairo, Egypt, Djibouti and South Sudan have colorfully celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary under the theme “Vision Through Toil”. At the celebration held in Demam on 11 May, Ms. Weini Ghebrezgiabher, head of the Consular Affairs in Riyadh, said the Independence Day celebrations attest to the respect the Eritrean people have to the fallen heroes and in which they pledge to strengthen unity and participate in the implementation of the national development drives. The Eritrean nationals residing in Cairo, Egypt, also celebrated the Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal. The First Secretary at the Eritrean Embassy, Mr. Ismail Idris said that the over all achievements so far registered are the result of the strong organization and resilience of the Eritrean people. Like wise, the Eritrean nationals residing in South Sudan have started the Independence Day celebration on 13 May with football competitions. The Independence Day celebration has been also conducted in Djibouti on 11 May featuring various activities including pictorial exhibition portraying the culture and tradition of the Eritrean people as well as historical heritage among others.

Eritrean nationals residing abroad have contributed over 170 thousand Nakfa in support of four disabled citizens in Ona-Watot, Tsorena sub-zone. Asmara, 16 May 2018- Eritrean nationals residing abroad have contributed over 170 thousand Nakfa in support of four disabled citizens in Ona-Watot, Tsorena sub-zone. The contributors are member of the “Development of Positive Thinking Association” residing in the US, Canada and Israel. Two members of the Association, Mr. Dawit Tekeste and Ms. Senait Haile, said that they took the initiative after witnessing the condition of the disabled citizens in the national media outlets. Likewise, three disabled citizens in Aretai Administrative area, Habero sub-zone, received financial assistance from PFDJ members in the Swiss city of Geneva. The beneficiaries said that the assistance attests to the noble culture of the Eritrean people to help disadvantaged fellow citizens.

Schools Independence Week in the Central region in connection with the 27th Independence Day anniversary is being conducted with different activities under the theme “Vision through Toil”. Asmara, 16 May 2018- Schools Independence Week in the Central region in connection with the 27th Independence Day anniversary is being conducted with different activities under the theme “Vision through Toil”. During an opening ceremony last Monday, a pictorial exhibition was opened by Maj. General Romodan Osman Awoliai, Governor of the Central region, and Mr. Yosuf Saik, Chairman of the PFDJ in the Central region. Stating that independence week has significant contribution in the development of education and nurturing as well as preserving societal values, Mr. Belai Habtegabir, Head of the Education Ministry in the Central region, disclosed that over 300 schools are participating in the Independence Week. The Administrator of Godaif sub-zone, Ms. Tiblets Tewolde, explained that the Independence Week observance is part of the 27th Independence Day anniversary celebration. The Schools Independence Week will continue until May 19 and is being highlighted by cultural and artistic performances.  

In the past two weeks during the visit of the new Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia to the Sudan, both governments have reportedly agreed “to extend support to what they termed as Eritrea’s armed opposition groups in order to enable them to properly execute their objectives”. In the past two weeks during the visit of the new Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia to the Sudan, both governments have reportedly agreed “to extend support to what they termed as Eritrea’s armed opposition groups in order to enable them to properly execute their objectives”.  To this end, both governments “have agreed to provide these groups with material support inside their respective borders as well as to extend to them requisite facilities for enhancing their free and unhindered, cross-border, movements in the two countries”.  To ensure the effective coordination of these operations, the Ethiopian side has appointed the Consul in its Embassy in Khartoum, a certain Mr. Burhan, who has also been acting as the principal supervisor of the operations of Qatari funded Jihadist groups.  The Sudan has similarly appointed General Hamid Al-Mustafa, as a counterpart for the Ethiopian appointee, for the coordination task. Eritrean nationals residing in Doha, Qatar, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait as well as Vienna, Austria, celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal under the theme “Vision through Toil”. Asmara, 14 May 2018- Eritrean nationals residing in Doha, Qatar, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait as well as Vienna, Austria, celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary with patriotic zeal under the theme “Vision through Toil”. The colorful celebration the Eritrean community members in Qatar conducted was attended by the Qatari Ministers of Culture and Sports and Administrative Development and Environment, Diplomats as well as by a number of nationals. Indicating that the Eritrean Independence is the outcome of the struggle and sacrifice of the Eritrean people, Mr. Ali Ibrahim, Eritrean Ambassador to Qatar, said that unity and harmony of the Eritrean people are the foundation for the success of the national development drives. In the same vein, the Eritrean nationals residing in Riyadh celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary featuring various activities depicting the unity in diversity of the Eritrean people. At the event certificates of appreciation was handed over to individuals that made outstanding contribution in the success of the programs of the community. The Eritrean Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Mohammed-Omar Mahmud, said that the Eritrean Independence beyond funfair and jubilation has deep meaning in which the Eritrean people reflect their unity and societal values. He also expressed appreciation for those who contributed for the realization of the event. The Eritrean nationals residing in Kuwait also celebrated the 27th Independence Day anniversary featuring cultural and artistic activities. Pointing out that the Eritrean community in Kuwait has been contributing to national programs since the days of the armed struggle for independence, Mr. Osman Saleh, Eritrean Ambassador to Kuwait, called for strong participation in the implementation of the national development programs. Meanwhile, Eritrean community members in Vienna, Austria, on 12 May celebrated the independence anniversary with a great national pride featuring various activities. The Chairman of the Eritrean community in Austria, Mr. Omar Jabir pointed out that the love of country emanates from the noble national and societal values and called for transferring to the young generation.
