Nerayo was born in November 1941 at the Swedish Mission compound in Edaga-Hamus, Asmara. His mother, Tegbaru Gebrekirstos, grew up within the Swedish Mission at Edaga-Hamus and also studied there. Tegbaru’s parents died unexpectedly when she was about 10 years old and she was brought up by well-wishers of the Swedish Mission. She became a committed Kenisha (Swedish Lutheran Church)) and when Teclemikael Agias, Nerayo’s father, proposed marriage to her, she insisted that he must first convert to her religion. However, it is likely that Teclemikael was already on the verge of conversion under the influence of his friend and fellow villager from Adi-Nefas, Keshi (Reverand) Habteselassie Gulbet, who was one of the first from the Highlands part of Eritrea who converted from Orthodox Christianity to the ‘Kenisha’ religion. ብኹሉ መዳያት ሕብረትሰብ ኣብ ቁጠባ ይኹን ኣብ ማሕበራውን ስነ-ኣእምራውን መዳያት ሳዕቤን ሳዋ ብዓይንና ንርእዮ ብእዝንና ንሰምዖ፣ መብዛሕትናውን ብተምክሮ ንፈልጦ ስለዝኾነ ፣ ዉጥን ሳዋ ኣብ ልዕሊ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ዘውረዶ ኣደራዕ ኩሉ መዳያዊ ዕንወት ኣዘንቲኻን ጽሒፍካን ዝውዳእ እኳ እንተዘይኮነ፣ ገለ ካብ ሳዕቤናት ሳዋ ኣሕጽር ኣቢለ ወስ ክብል ክፍትን እየ፣-   ሳዋ እንታይ ኣፍረየት?   ካልኣይ ክፋል፡ ሳዋን ጠንቅታት ሳዋን -  ብኹሉ መዳያት ሕብረትሰብ ኣብ ቁጠባ ይኹን ኣብ ማሕበራውን ስነ-ኣእምራውን መዳያት ሳዕቤን ሳዋ ብዓይንና ንርእዮ ብእዝንና ንሰምዖ፣ መብዛሕትናውን ብተምክሮ ንፈልጦ ስለዝኾነ ፣ ዉጥን ሳዋ ኣብ ልዕሊ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ዘውረዶ ኣደራዕ ኩሉ መዳያዊ ዕንወት ኣዘንቲኻን ጽሒፍካን ዝውዳእ እኳ እንተዘይኮነ፣ ገለ ካብ ሳዕቤናት ሳዋ ኣሕጽር ኣቢለ ወስ ክብል ክፍትን እየ፣- ምንጻግ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና፡ ልዕሊ ተስዓ ሚእታዊት መንእሰይ ኤርትራ፣ ተገፊፉን ተገዲዱን'ዩ ናብ ሳዋ ዝኸይድ።ካብ ግፋ ናይ ዓቅሊ ጽበት ኣብ ኣርማድዮ፡ ኣብ ትሕቲ ዓራት፡ ኣብ እንዳቤተሰብ ወይ የዕሩኽቲ ወይ ኣብ ቖፎን ካልእን ዝሕባእ ካኣ ዳርጋ ኩሉ ኢዩ። ንጀነራላት ጉጅለ ህግደፍ ጉቦ ሂቡ ወረቀት ፍቃድ ዝዕድግ ብዙሕ ኢዩ። ገሊኤን ደቂ ኣንስትዮ ናብ ሳዋ ንኸይከዳ ስድረአን የመርዕዉወን ወይ ናይ ሓሶት መርዓ ምስ ኣዝማደን ወይ ፈለጥተን ንስለ ወረቀት ይገብራ። እዚ ካብቲ ኣብ መጀመርያ ሰብ ናብ ሳዋ ንኸይከይድ ዝገብሮ ኢዩ።ካብዚ ቀጺልና ድሕሪ እዛ ሓጻር ዕላል፣ ናብ ሳዋ ምስ ከዱ መንእሰያት ንምንጻግ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ዝጥቀሙሉ ሜላታትን ዘጋጥሞም ጸገማትን ክንሪኢ ኢና። ዕላል፡-  ሓደ እዋን ኣብ ኣስመራ እንከለና፣Mp ህግደፍ መንእሰያት ይገፉ ነበሩ።ንሕና ካኣ ኣብ ጥቃ ገዛና ኣብ እትርከብ ዱኳን እንዳ ሃብተ ኮፍ ኢልና ነዕልል ኣብ ዝነበርናሉ፣ ሓደ ካባና «ስምዑ ክነግረኩም፡ ኣቦይ እዛ እግረይ ይሕንክስ ንሙዃነይ ኣዝዩ ኢዩ ዝሓዝን ነይሩ፣ ሕጂ ግን እንዳሓደረ የሐጉሶ'ሎ። ከመይሲ ሳዋ ምኻድ ስለ ዘይምልከተኒ» ክብል ኣስሓቀና። ዝኸበርካ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ፣መንእሰይ ኤርትራ ካብቲ ብዘይ ድሌት ዝኣትዎ መወዳእታ ዘይብሉ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ንክፋኖ፣ ማለት ኣገልጋሊ (ጊላ) ናይ መሪሕነት ጉጅለ ህግደፍ ንሙሉእ ዕድሚኡ፣ ንክትኸዉን ትፍረደሉ፣ ኣራዪ ዕንጨይቲ፥ ዋርድያ፥ ኣካቢ ኣእማን፤ ዋርድያ ስልጣን ተሰካሚ ጠበንጃ ወዘተን፣ ጉጅለ ህግደፍ ኣብ ዝኣጎዶ ኣሽሓት ህይወት ዝወስድ ኲናት ንክትሳተፍ ትመሃረሉን (ትዕለመሉ)፥ መንፈስካ ትስበረሉ እታ እንኮ ናጽነትካ ተረክበሉ ናይ መጀመርያ ባይታ ስለዝኾነ ካብዚ መዓት'ዚ ንኽገላገል፥ እቲ መንእሰይ ዘይኣልሞን ዘይምህዞን ምኽንያታት ኣሎ ክብሃል ኣይከኣልን። ሙዃን ምስዝኣብየካ'ሞ ክትሃድም ፈቲንካ ምስትተሓዝ ድማ ሳዕቤኑ ኣዝዩ ከቢድ ኢዩ። እስከ ንሎሚ ካብቲ መብዛሕትና ኣብኣዕረኽቱናንን ኣሕዋትናን ከጋጥም እንርእዮን ወይ ዉን ብዕላል ንሰምዖን፣ ዝተፈላለየ ዘይንቡር፥ ገለ ካብ መንእሰያት ንምንጻግ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ዝጥቀሙሉ ሜላታት ከዕልለኩም ኣፍቁዱለይ፦ ኣውቆ ኣበድ (ብፍላጥ ዝተጸለለ) ሓደ ሰብ ኢዪ ተገፊፉ ካብ ኣስመራ ናብ ሳዋ ምስኸደ፥ ኣብኡ እዚ እንተገይረ ክፋኖ ይኽእል'የ ኢሉ ዝሓሰቦ ሓሳብ ክገብር ጀመረ። እቲ ዝተጠቀመሉ ሜላ ኣውቖ ኣበድ ማለት (ብፍላጥ ዝተጸለለ) ኢዩ። መቸም ድሕሪ ብዙሕ መጽናዕቲን ናብሕክምና ምምልላስን፣ እዚስ ተጸሊሉ'ዩ ክፋኖ ኣለዎ ተባሂሉ፣ ምስ ተኣመነሉ ካኣ ናብ ስድሩኡ ክኸይድ ተፈቂዱሉ። ናብኣስመራ ምስ ከደ፣ ናብ ሓሊበት እንዳ ተመላለሰ ዘይጽሉል ክነሱ፥ ጥዕና ንኽረክብ ሕክምናኡ የካይድን፣ ዝተኣዘዘሉ መድሃኒታት ክወስድ ድማ ይግደድን። ኣብቕድሚ ኣዕሩኹቱን ፈለጥቱን ዉን እንተኾነ ዘይንሱ ክመስል መዓልታዊ ስርሐይ ኢሉ ኢዩ ዝተተሓሓዞ። እቲ ምንታይ ጡዑይ ሙዃኑ ምስዝፍለጥ ገለ ካብፈለጥቱ፣ ናይ እዝኒ ምስ ህግደፍ ዝደናገጹ እንተኾኑ፣ ክጥቁሙዎ ከምዝኽእሉ ስለዝፈርህ። ንብከምዚ ጉዳዮም ዝሰለጦም፣ቖልዑ ተጸሊሉ ኢሎም ኣእማን ሹር ዝብሉዎምን፣ ነዓታቶም ክርእዩ ከለዉ ፈሪሖም መንገዲ ዝቅዩሩ ዝሃድሙን ብዙሓት ኢዮም። ኣብ ህዝባዊ ግንባር/ህግደፍ ሓሚመ ኢሉ ንዘመኽነየ ዩኹን፣ ንበሓቂ ካብ ቅድም ዩኹን ኣብ ሳዋ ምስ ከደ ዝሓመመ፣ ኣሚኖም ብቀሊል ንገዛኻ ዝሰዱ ሸፋቱ ኣይኮኑን።ዋላ ውን እንተኣመኑ፣ዕድል እንተ ዘይገበርካ ክሳብ ኣዚኻ ብሕማም ትስነፍን ክሳብ ዋላ ትመዉትን ዘይክትስደድ ይከኣል ኢዩ። እስከ ሕጂ ካኣ ሓንቲ ካልእ፣ ከም ዋዛ ዓይነት ዝሰማዕኩዋ ሓጻር ዕላል ጆባእ ክብለኩም፦ ዕላል፥ «ሓደ መዓልቲ ሓንቲ ዓይኑ ዘይተርእዮ ሰብ፣ ናብ ዝምልከቶ ኣካል ብምዃድ፣ »ኣነ እዛ ሓንቲ ዓይነይ ከም ዘይትሪኢ ትፈልጥ ኢኻ። ሕጂ ካኣ ነዛ ካልኣይቲ ዓይነይ ከይለከመታ ንሳ ዉን ትዳኸም ስለዘላ፣ ካብዚ ሳዋ ዝገላገለሉ መሰነይታ ወረቀት ሃበኒ« ምስ በሎ፣ ከምዚ ክብል » ስማዕ ስማዕ ንወትሃደር ሓንቲ ዓይኒ ትኣኽሎ ኢያ።ክልተ ኣዒንቲ መጋየጺ'ዩ« ኢሉ መለሰሉ ይብሃል። ኣዝዩ ዘስደምም ንኽትኣምኖ ዘጸግም'ዩ። ኣብዛ ሳዋ ኢሎም ብምዕራብ ዝፈጠሩዋ ጋህነብ ዝትግበር፣ »ዘይተነግረ እንበር ዘይተገብረ ነገር የለን« እትብል ምስላ ብትኽክል ኢያ ትገልጾ።  ጸማም፦ ሓንቲ መንእሰይ ዉን ካብዚ ዘይዉዳእ ግዱድ ዕስክርና ንክትገላገል ኢላ፣ ከም ድምጺ ዘይትሰምዕ (ጸማም) ኮይና ዝመሃዘቶ ትያትሮ፣ ሓላፊኣ ኣብ ቤትጽሕፈቱ ኣጸዊዑ ንሕክምና ንክትከይድ ፍቃድ ድሕሪ ምሃቡ፥ ቻው ኢሉ ብኢዱ ሰላም ድሕሪ ምባል፣ ካብቲ ቤትጽሕፈት ዉጽእ ምስበለት፣ ዓው ኢሉ »ማዕጾ ሰሓብዮ'ባ" ምስበላ፣ ጸማም ሙዃና ዝረሳዓቶ ሓፍትና ተመሊሳ ማዕጾ ስለዝዓጸወቶ ተረኪሳ። ዝኸበርኩምን ዝኸበርክንን፣መንእሰይ ኤርትራ ካብ ሳዋ ንኸምልጥ ዝጥቀመሎም ሜላታት ቅሩብ እሞ ሕስብ ኣብልዎ። እቲ መንእሰይ ኤርትራ ክቱር ጽልኢ ብዘይ ድልየት ዝኣትዎ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ከም ዘለዎ ዘርኢ ኢዩ። መግዛእቲ ህግደፍ ዝመረሮ ሰብ፣ ብዝተፈላለየ ሕማማት ኣመኽንዩ እንተ ዘይሰሊጡዎ፣ ንህዝበይን ሃገረይን የገልግል ኣሎኹ ኢሉ ጊላ ጉጅለ ህግደፍ ኮይኑ ክቕጽል ሕሉኑኡ ይቅበሎ'ዶ? ካብ መጀመርያስ ንህዝቡን ሃገሩን ዘገልግል ዘሎ ኮይኑ ዝስመዖ ነይሩ እንተዝኸዉን'ከ ከምዚኢታት ምፈተነ'ዶ? እቲ መልሱ ናባኹም ይገድፎ። እቲ ዝገርም እዞም ጉጅለ ህግደፍ ኣብ ዝኣገዶ ሓዊ ብኣስገዳድን ዝጥበሱ፣ መጻኢ ዕድሎም ዝጸልመተ ጩኩናት፣ ቃልሲ ዉላድ ጭኮና እኳ እንተኾነ፣ ኣንጻር እቲ ኣገዲዱ ዘዐስከሮም ጉጅለ፣ ሓቢሮም ክቃለሱ፣ እምብለይ ንጉዱድ ዕስክርና ኢሎም፣ ብሓባር ኮይኖም ክሳብ ሕጂ ዘስምዕዎ ዝኾነ ዩኹን ናይ ተቓዉሞ ድምጺ የልቦን። ካብ ሓሚመ ጸሚመ ተጸሊለ ወይ ዉን ምኹብላል ሓሊፎም፣ እግረይ ኣውጺኢኒ ኢሎም ኣርሒቆም ንስደት ምህዳም'ዩ፣ እቲ ዝኸፈአ ካኣ ኣብ ብዙሓት ዘጋጥም ባዕልኻ ነብስኻ ምቅታል ኣሎ፣ ካልእ የለን። ኣብ መወዳእታ ከይጠቀስኩዎ ክሓልፍ ዘይደሊ ካልእ እንተሎ መንእሰይ ኤርትራ ንምንጻግ ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ኣማራጺ ኢዩ ኢሉ ካብ ዝወስዶ ምርጫ ኢዩ። ንሱ ካኣ ብዘይ ሕጋዊ ኣገባብ፣ ኣሽሓት ዶላራት ከፊልካ ዝኽየድ፣ ናብ ስደት ጉዕዞን ብሰናይ ድሌትን ፍቃድን ናይ ካሎኦት ኣህዛብ ኣብእንዳማትካ ሃገር ስደተኛ ኾንካ ምንባርን ኢዩ። ዋሕዚ ስደት ካኣ ግዳይ ሰረቅትን ዓመጽትን ግዳይ ባሕርን ሳህራን ገይሩና ኣሎ። ብበዳዊንን ካሎኦትን ንጭወ ንእሰር ንግረፍ ኣካላትና ተኸታቲፉ ኣብ ዕዳጋ ይሽየጥን፣ ኣብምድረ በዳ ሳህራ ብሑጻ ንድፈን፣ ኣብ ባሕሪ ብተደጋጋሚ ብጃምላ ንጥሕልን ኣለና። ስደት ካኣ ስደት ኢዩ። ዓዲ ጓና ዓዲ ክኾነና ኣይኽእልን። ሃገርና ኻኣ ብዘይ መንእሰያት ትተርፍ ትባድን እያ ዘላ። ዜጋታት ጉዱድ ዕስክርና ሳዋ ክውድእ ኢዩ እሞ ፣ ብድሕሪኡ ዝጥምቶን ዝጭብጦን ኣለኒ ክብሉ ዘይምኽኣሎም ጸገም ፈጢሩ ኣሎ። እዚ ብጀካ ንዉሑዳት ንህዝብን ሃገርን ዘይጠቅም ምፍራይ ጊላታት፣ ምፍራይ ዋርድያ ስልጣን ኢሰያስን ጉጁሉኡን ደው ንምባል'ከ እንታይ ክግበር ዘይምተኻእለ? ብጉልባብ ሃገራዊ ኣገልግሎት፣ መንእሰያት ደቂ እዚ ህዝቢ፣ ንእስነቶም ክምንዙዑ ክትሪኢ ከለኻ፣ እዚ ኣብ ዉሽጥን ወጻእን ዘሎ ህዝቢስ ከመይስ ከመይ ኣቢሉ ይቅበሎን ተጻዊሩዎን ኣሎ?  ብዘይ ድሌትካ ብሓይሊ ኣገዲዱ ከስርሕ ዝፍትን፣ ኣብ ዓስቢ ዘይብሉ ዕዮ ዘውፋርን ዝጸምድን እኮ ባርነት ኢዩ።ንዜጋታት ብሓይሊ ዓመጽ ኣገዲዱ ኣብ ኲናትን ጥፍኣትን ዝሽምም እዚ ቅትለት ኢዩ።እቲ ኩሉ ኣብ ሳዋ ብጉጅለ ህግደፍ ዝግበር እንበኣር ኩሉ ጸረ ሓርነት ኢዩ።ኩሉ ዉጹእ ባርነት ኢዩ።ስለዚ ሳዋ ደው ክብል ኣለዎ።ከሙኡ ዉን ኩሉ ዝተሰደ ንክምለስን ሳዋ ደው ንኽብልን ፣ ህግደፍን ኣተሓሳስቡኡን ሓንሳብን ንሓዋሩን ካብ ሱሩ መሰረቱ ከም ግዝኣት ቱርኪ ካብ ኤርትራ ክጠፍእ ኣለዎ።   ኣብ ዓለም ግን ምሽዶ ከም ህግደፍ ብህዝቢ ተጸሊኡን ዳርጋ ዝበዘሐ ህዝቢ ምረቱን ጽልኣቱን ብዓውታ ክገልጸሉ ጀሚሩ፣ ሓይሉ ተዳኺሙ ናይ ዉሽጥን ወጻእን ደጋፊ ወይ ዉን እንተ ተጋሕፈ ዝድንግጸሉ ዘይብሉ ስርዓት፣ እቲ ብሙሉእ ሓይሊኻ ዝኣመንካሉ ስርዓት ወይ መንግስቲ ዉን እንተኾነ መወዳእታ ኣለዎ። ህግደፍ ዉን እንተኾነ ክጠፍእ ኢዩ። የግዳስ ዕድሚኡ ኣብ ምሕጻር ኩልና ኣብ ምሉእ ዓለም ዘለና ኤርትራውያን ብዓወት ከይተጠራጠርና ክንቃለስን ብዓቅምና ዝከኣለና ከነበርክትን ይላበወኩምን ይምሕጸነኩም። ሓርነትና ናይግድን እዩ። ሳልሳይ ክፋል ይቕጽል ኣማኑኤል ስዩም

It will soon be a year and a half of unjust imprisonment for Medhanie Tesfamariam Berhe, the man extradited from Sudan in a disturbing case of mistaken identity during a high profile joint investigation by the British National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Italian Palermo magistrate. The situation has gone beyond being an embarrassing mistake to becoming a grave miscarriage of justice against an innocent man who found himself in a foreign country after fleeing persecution in Eritrea, his home country. Despite all evidence to the contrary, he remains accused of being Medhanie Yehdego Mered and imprisoned as one of the human smugglers most wanted by European authorities. Since the time of Gaddafi in Libya, migrants who make their way to Europe crossing that country have been informing governments and NGOs about the abuses they suffered in desert camps before making their way across the Mediterranean. Since the time of Gaddafi, Europe (primarily Italy) has been making deals with whichever authority was running the country in trying to stop refugees from arriving at its borders. In Egypt, in the Sinai Peninsula, the torture and trade of African migrants (including human organ trade) reached new levels of brutality during that time. On October 31st 2017, a student-led protest in the capital of Eritrea was met with gunfire, after the demonstrators gathered in the streets of Asmara to demand the opening of their school which had been forcibly closed. They were primarily students of the Al Diaa Islamic School - a private community school, located in the Akria neighbourhood-and they wanted to be heard by the government. British Columbia’s Court of Appeal today dismissed an appeal by Nevsun Resources Ltd., that sought to block a case brought against the company by three Eritrean refugees for the alleged used of forced labour at its Bisha mine in Eritrea. The three plaintiffs allege they were national service conscripts and that their labour was provided to Nevsun and its operating subsidiary, Bisha Mining Share Company, through two Eritrean companies related to Eritrea’s ruling party and its military. They allege those Eritrean companies are documented slavers and the plaintiffs’ labour was extracted under threat of torture, arbitrary detention, imprisonment in inhumane conditions and reprisals against family members. The ruling by the British Columbia Court of Appeal marks the first time that an appellate court in Canada has permitted a mass tort claim for modern slavery. The court rejected Nevsun’s position that the case should be dismissed in Canada and instead heard in Eritrea.
