Nigeria: Nearly 300 prisoners have escaped in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, after floods caused the walls of a prison to collapse, authorities said on Sunday. At least 30 people have been killed in flooding, according to Nigeria's emergency agency.

Senegal: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has vowed a «relentless hunt» on migrant traffickers a day after news that at least 35 people had drowned off West Africa. Senegal's coasts are one of the main departure points for migrants heading to Europe, through overloaded and unseaworthy boats.

Ukraine: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Thursday that Russia has started a counter-offensive in its western Kursk region, where Ukraine launched a major incursion last month. Russia said its troops have recaptured 10 settlements in Kursk.
