Blood splatters on pavement: 1 dead, another injured after fight near Kitchener Road

SINGAPORE - A brawl near Kim Sam Leng Eating House along Verdun Road on Sept 22 left one man dead and another injured. By 9am on the same day, a large police cordon stretching from Novotel Hotel at Kitchener Road to the perimeter of Mustafa Centre and Sam Leong Road had been set up. Evidence cards were placed by slippers left strewn on a trail from Kim Sam Leng Eating House to the alley behind nearby Sam Leong Street Chicken Rice restaurant. Both establishments were closed. Bloodstains were also splattered on the pavement outside Novotel Hotel. Over 10 police officers were gathered outside Kim Sam Leng Eating House at around 10 am, and at least one police officer stood guard at each section of the large cordoned area. The Straits Times has contacted the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force for more information. This is a developing story.

Unhappy after talking to his boss allegedly over wages owed, a chicken rice stall employee took things into his own hands, at one point grabbing a chopper from the stall. The incident which happened on Sept 20 at about 7.50pm involved two men, the cook and the co-owner of Millennium Hainan Chicken Rice stall, reported Shin Min Daily News. The stall is located within the food centre at Block 90 Whampoa Drive. According to the boss' wife who spoke to Shin Min, the altercation happened after a discussion over the cook's payment went south. «They spoke in Hokkien which I don't understand. But later on, I heard that the cook was not happy with the amount discussed,» said the woman, surnamed Luo. Based on CCTV footage captured by the stall and seen by Shin Min, the two men were seen seated at a table in front of the stall when the cook suddenly stood up and waved his fists at the other man. He then took a swipe at the other and the two men engaged in a brawl, reported Shin Min.

A 36-year-old man was arrested following a hit-and-run accident involving a car and a van on the PIE on Sept 20. The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told The Straits Times that they were alerted to an accident on the expressway towards Changi Airport at around 1pm. The car driver was arrested for driving without a valid licence and possessing a scheduled weapon, reported by 8World to be a knuckle-duster. The van's passenger, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital conscious. Lianhe Zaobao reported on Sept 21 that the accident was witnessed by a woman, 49, alongside her husband and child as they were driving on Mount Pleasant Road, near the PIE Stevens Road exit. The Chinese daily also shared a video of the collision.
