Bishkek, Dec. 10, 2018. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov met with Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnák in Brussels, within the visit to participate in the 16th meeting of the Kyrgyzstan-EU Cooperation Council. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that during the meeting, the sides discussed expansion of the cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Energy Charter. In particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed interest in exploring best practices in reform of the energy sector, development of markets, introduction of energy efficient technologies and alternative energy sources. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic told that the development of hydropower industry is one of the priorities of sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic. In addition, Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to its participation in the CASA-1000 project. In turn, Rusnák told about the process of modernization of the Energy Charter in the context of changing global relations in the energy sector. The sides discussed the initiative of the Energy Charter Secretariat to expand the EU4Energy project with the practical application of the program in the countries of Central Asia. As a promising area of cooperation, the sides identified development of renewable energy sources in the Kyrgyz Republic, increasing energy efficiency and introducing energy saving measures. The sides noted the importance of the EU’s planned adoption of a new strategy for Central Asia in 2019, within which it is also planned to consider energy issues. Read more
