As part of the EU's long-term budget for the 2028-2034 period, the European Commission did not present a separate fund to support the common fisheries policy (CFP). Instead, as part of a redesign of the EU's long-term budget, support for fisheries, aquaculture and ocean-related activities would be integrated into a single, larger fund that also covers other areas, such as cohesion and agriculture. Consequently, rather than launching a legislative proposal to establish the successor to the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) of the 2021-2027 programming period, the Commission published a shorter, sectoral proposal outlining specific conditions for funding in support of the CFP, the ocean pact and the EU's maritime and aquaculture policy.
