A Pakistani cabinet minister says Islamabad will continue to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar under a 15-year agreement, despite the severing of diplomatic ties with Qatar by Saudi Arabia and some other countries.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the federal minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, said Qatar and Pakistan last year signed a $1 billion agreement, under which Qatar's Liquefied Gas Company Limited will sell LNG from 2016 to year 2031 to state-run Pakistan State Oil.
He said since no sanctions have been imposed on Qatar by the United Nations, Pakistan and Qatar were bound to abide by the agreement.
Qatar has released an initial report into the alleged hack of its state-run news agency, an incident which helped spark a diplomatic crisis between the energy-rich country and Arab nations.
The Qatari Interior Ministry said late Wednesday that the website of the Qatar News Agency was initially hacked in April with "high techniques and innovative methods."
It said hackers installed a file and then published a fake news item attributed to Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, just after midnight May 24.
The ministry did not say who it suspected carried out the attack. It also thanked the FBI and the British National Commission for Combating Crime for assisting it in its investigation.
The alleged fake news item, which had Sheikh Tamim making controversial comments on Iran and Israel, immediately was picked up by Saudi and Emirati media, laying the groundwork for the crisis that began Monday (05.06.2017.)

Despite paying over $11,350 to loan sharks over debts he never incurred, this Malaysian working in Singapore allegedly had his house set ablaze, Shin Min Daily News reported on Sunday (April 26).Speaking with the Chinese publication, Chen Jiaqiang (transliteration) who works as a carpenter in Singapore recalled how he was contacted by a loan shark through his phone in 2025.The loan shark had purportedly purchased information about Chen which included his phone number, pestering Chen to take a loan from them.Although he refused to borrow money, Chen said he received a phone call from the loan shark a week later, notifying him that $500 had been transferred to his account.Chen would need to pay $100 in interest every week due to this loan, the loan shark allegedly said.«I said I would return the money immediately,» Chen told Shin Min. «But he refused and stressed that I could only pay the interest and cannot return the principal sum.»In order to avoid trouble, I had no choice but to follow suit."He paid $300 in interest to the loan shark and mutually agreed to end things with him after a $2,700 payment through PayNow, Chen said.
A total of 12 motorists, aged between 34 and 70, will be charged in court on Tuesday (April 28) for speeding offences involving heavy vehicles not fitted with speed limiters.Police said in a news release on Monday that the alleged offences were committed between December 2025 and February this year.Eight cases involved prime mover drivers who exceeded their vehicles' imposed speed limit of 50kmh.Of these, seven were travelling along Sheares Avenue towards Central Boulevard — near Tanjong Pagar Terminal — at speeds of between 63kmh and 72kmh, while a 70-year-old male driver was found driving along Banyan Avenue towards Jurong Island Highway at a speed of 65kmh. Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and law enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom have successfully disrupted a transnational drug network in a cross-border operation, resulting in a total of 921kg of UK-bound cannabis seized in separate operations. In a news release on Monday (April 27), CNB said a 20-foot inbound container with 509kg of cannabis was detected at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station on January 3. CNB established the drugs were transiting through Singapore and bound for the UK.The anti-drug agency initiated a cross-border operation with the United Kingdom's Home Office International Operations, which, in turn, coordinated with the UK Border Force and the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit.Through the law enforcement agencies' coordination and intelligence sharing, British authorities seized a further 412kg of cannabis in a separate container bound for the UK on February 25.Their joint efforts led to the disruption of a transnational drug network and its downstream trafficking activities, CNB said, preventing further distribution of a massive amount of drugs in the UK.
