As part of an initiative to make public transport inclusive for commuters with diverse mobility needs, the Land Transport Authority on Monday (April 27) announced a «First to Board, First to Use» trial.During the six-month trial, commencing April, 10 bus services in Singapore will have their existing priority bays become shared — on a first come, first served basis — for wheelchair and mobility aid users, and parents travelling with children in strollers.In its announcement posted on social media, LTA said bus captains have been trained to support users on this pilot.The transport regulator added that the 10 selected bus services — 5/5A/5B, 54, 57, 67, 131/131A, 143/143M, 166, 851/851e, 960/960e and 980 — were chosen because they have high ridership of seniors and persons with disabilities. They also ply routes near major maternity and paediatric hospitals.

One person was taken to hospital after an accident involving a black BMW car and a motorcycle along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) on Sunday (April 26).In a dashcam video shared by Facebook page SGRV Admin, the black car is seen travelling in the first lane along the BKE towards Woodlands Checkpoint, before Woodlands Crossing, and appears to rear-end a white car at about 10.40pm.As the white car driver exits to inspect the damage, the BMW hastily reverses and then switches to the second lane in an apparent attempt to flee the scene.However, in doing so, the car strikes a motorcyclist, causing the rider to fall and roll all the way to the leftmost lane. Debris can also be seen scattered across the road. Still, the BMW driver did not stop and continued to flee.The motorcyclist was seen standing up on the road.Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the hit-and-run accident at about 10.45pm.

BMW crashes into Temasek Polytechnic fence after colliding with Volkswagen; 1 injured

A driver suffered minor injuries after his car collided with another, causing him to crash into a fence outside Temasek Polytechnic's West Gate on Monday (April 27). The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told AsiaOne they were alerted to the accident involving two cars at around 8.30am near the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 8. The injured driver, who drives a black BMW and wished to remain anonymous, told Lianhe Zaobao that he lived nearby and had been on his way to work. He was driving at around 40km per hour as he approached the intersection, he said, when a white Volkswagen crashed into his car.The black BMW then veered onto the pavement and crashed into a fire hydrant and a small tree before crashing into the fence of Temasek Polytechnic, reported Lianhe Zaobao.«Even though I have insurance, this unexpected accident has severely impacted my work, I won't be able to work properly for at least two days,» the driver told the Chinese daily. The male driver is reportedly assisting with police investigations.

After successfully raising the $2.4 million needed to save their child from a rare genetic disorder, baby Faziq finally received treatment last Wednesday (April 22). His mother, 35-year-old Norhaziqah Rosli told AsiaOne on Monday (April 27) that Faziq — who was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) which causes muscles to weaken over time — responded well to the one-time Zolgensma gene therapy and is being closely monitored as he recovers. She shared that Faziq is currently back home but still has to go for follow-up visits weekly at the hospital to ensure everything is progressing well.«As a family, we felt incredibly grateful and relieved. It has been a long and emotional journey, and we're truly thankful that Faziq has been given a chance we once only dreamed of,» added Norhaziqah.
