Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make a five-day visit to China's Guangxi and Shanghai from Monday (May 18).The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Sunday that SM Lee's visit «builds on the momentum of high-level bilateral exchanges between Singapore and China and deepens Singapore's ties with China at the regional level.»In Guangxi, SM Lee will meet and be hosted to dinner by Chen Gang, secretary of the Communist Party of China of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region committee. SM Lee will also make site visits to better understand Guangxi's role in advancing Asean-China connectivity as a key gateway for linking China with Southeast Asia.In an interview with China's People's Daily last December, Singapore's ambassador to China Peter Tan noted that Qinzhou port in Guangxi is an important node on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, serving as a gateway for Southeast Asian goods transhipped through Singapore into the Chinese market.Tan also expressed hope for Singapore to work with Guangxi to «further enhance connectivity, improve logistics and unlock new avenues for trade and investments» between them.

A business owner at Sultan Plaza has voiced concerns about the growing number of vice-related massage parlours in the building, saying nearly 30 have opened within just four months.An employee was even seen sitting at the shop’s entrance clad in a towel while waiting for customers.Shin Min Daily News received the tip-off from a reader, Mr Tan, who runs a restaurant in the building. The 49-year-old said massage parlours had gradually begun operating in Sultan Plaza since 2025, but the situation has worsened in the past months.“About 10 opened last year, but this year there are more and more. I think there are at least 40 now,” he said.The zi char restaurant owner added that scantily dressed women would openly solicit customers along the corridors, even during the day.“Most of them just wear a shirt and sit at the entrance. Whenever someone walks past, they ask if they want massage services,” he said.Mr Tan recounted that on the morning of May 3, he passed by one of the parlours and saw a woman sitting on a sofa at the entrance wearing only a towel.

Members of the public jumped in to restrain a man who allegedly took upskirt photographs at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station on Friday (May 15) night.According to videos circulating online, the man was seen sprinting down an escalator, brushing past another woman along the way.Someone can be heard shouting for the man to stop, accusing him of taking videos of a woman. Another person also accused the man of being a «pervert» in Mandarin.As the suspect ran through the crowd, several individuals begin to give chase, eventually restraining the man who had fallen to his knees.The man was later seen with his shirt torn open, the milk tea he had been carrying spilled on the station floor.A photograph of the incident shows a SBS Transit staff member speaking into a communications device with his hand on the man's shoulder.Among those chasing the man was a woman who alleged that the man had been snapping pictures of her from Somerset MRT station, MS News reported.She had followed the suspect to Dhoby Ghaut alongside a man in orange who also helped restrain the suspect.

A 64-year-old man died after the car he was driving crashed into a crash cushion in Serangoon on Saturday (May 16) morning.The accident happened at about 10.15am along Serangoon Road towards Upper Serangoon Road.  Map showing where the accident on Saturday (May 16) took place. SINGAPORE - Around 18,000 flats across Singapore have been selected for home upgrading works under the Housing Board’s Home Improvement Programme (HIP).The 198 blocks chosen for upgrades are located in 12 towns including Bedok, Bishan, Jurong West, Pasir Ris, Sengkang, Serangoon, Tampines and Woodlands.Home owners will get structural improvements and can opt for subsidised upgrades to their toilets or bathrooms, said Second Minister for National Development Indranee Rajah on May 16.The Government has allocated $253 million for the works, said the HDB.The HIP programme was launched in 2007 to address maintenance issues such as spalling concrete and ceiling leakage.Speaking at a block party in Bukit Batok East Nature View, Ms Indranee said about 409,000 flats have been upgraded under the HIP since its launch.The Government has spent about $5 billion on these works, she added.Within Bukit Batok East, more than 1,600 households across 14 blocks have been selected for the upcoming batch of HIP, said Ms Indranee.Under the HIP, flats are shortlisted for upgrades based on their age.
