Ride-hailing app Tada to introduce new cancellation fee, increase compensation cap on cleaning fees

Local ride-hailing app Tada will be implementing a $3 cancellation fee and increasing the cleaning fee compensation cap.In a Facebook post on Wednesday (March 11), the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) said that the new initiatives are a result of ongoing engagements between Tada's management and the National Trades Union Congress-affiliated union.Based on the updated terms, Tada drivers will receive a $3 compensation if they have been en route for at least three minutes and are within 500m of the pick-up point when a ride is cancelled. «This is a positive step towards recognising the effort drivers make when travelling to pick up passengers and get cancelled upon,» said NPHVA.The $3 fee will also apply if the rider cancels or does not show up to the pick-up point after the driver arrives.Additionally, Tada will be increasing the cleaning fee compensation cap to $150 to «better reflect prevailing market rates» and help ensure that drivers receive «more appropriate compensation» for such incidents.The union said: «NPHVA will continue to voice the concerns of the drivers on the roads.»

63-year-old man arrested for loanshark harassment in Choa Chu Kang

A 63-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday (March 10) for his alleged involvement in a case of loanshark harassment in Choa Chu Kang. The incident happened at a home in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7. A debtor's note left at the alleged crime scene reads: «First warning (name). Better WhatsApp call me at (number) to pay your money.» The man was arrested by officers from Jurong Police Division with the aid of images from police cameras. The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide. He will be charged in court on Thursday. If found guilty of loanshark harassment, the man could be jailed for up to five years, fined up to $50,000, and also receive up to six strokes of the cane. As caning is only carried out on male offenders who are below 50 years of age, the court may impose additional jail time of up to 12 months in lieu of caning, if the man is convicted.

A 40-year-old man has become the third Malaysian to be arrested in Singapore, within seven days, for his alleged involvement in a case of government official impersonation scam. Like the preceding cases, he is believed to have facilitated scam syndicates by collecting cash and valuables, the police said in a news release on Wednesday (March 11). More than 50 Malaysians have been arrested for being scam mules in Singapore since May last year. Victim called the bluff on scammerPolice said they received a report from a victim on March 10 who was contacted by an unknown person claiming to be from telco M1. The person claimed that the victim had purchased a new iPhone 17 Pro Max worth $8,000 and that a monthly payment of $350 would be charged to her account. When she denied having an M1 account or making any purchase, the victim was given a number to contact to cancel the subscription.
