Bishkek, Dec. 10, 2018. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov, during his working visit to Brussels, met with representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora living in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. The Minister spoke about the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as about the planned changes in the structure of the institution, in particular concerning strengthening of interaction with compatriots. In this context, he also informed about the recent creation of the Council on Relations with Compatriots under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Minister stressed that the main goal of the Council is to strengthen interaction and ensure effective cooperation between the state and compatriots on the issues of support and protection of the rights and interests of Kyrgyz people abroad. Representatives of the diaspora addressed their questions to Aidarbekov. The Minister answered each question, taking control of their further development. Chingiz Aidarbekov also told that one of the priorities of the work of the overseas institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic, depending on the potential of the host country, will be, in particular, attracting investments, protecting citizens' rights and promoting information about Kyrgyzstan and the benefits of its tourism potential. Following the meeting, compatriots representing various associations and unions of several countries expressed their gratitude to the Minister for an open and informative meeting.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov met with Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnák in Brussels, within the visit to participate in the 16th meeting of the Kyrgyzstan-EU Cooperation Council. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that during the meeting, the sides discussed expansion of the cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Energy Charter. In particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed interest in exploring best practices in reform of the energy sector, development of markets, introduction of energy efficient technologies and alternative energy sources. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic told that the development of hydropower industry is one of the priorities of sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic. In addition, Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to its participation in the CASA-1000 project. In turn, Rusnák told about the process of modernization of the Energy Charter in the context of changing global relations in the energy sector. The sides discussed the initiative of the Energy Charter Secretariat to expand the EU4Energy project with the practical application of the program in the countries of Central Asia. As a promising area of ​​cooperation, the sides identified development of renewable energy sources in the Kyrgyz Republic, increasing energy efficiency and introducing energy saving measures. The sides noted the importance of the EU’s planned adoption of a new strategy for Central Asia in 2019, within which it is also planned to consider energy issues.

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov met with representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Italy as part of his working visit to Naples, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. This meeting has been held in Naples at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for the first time. Expressing his gratitude to compatriots who arrived for the meeting with the diaspora from all the regions of Italy, the Minister spoke about the current state of bilateral Kyrgyz-Italian relations and the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to activate them. Representatives of the diaspora were able to address their issues to Aidarbekov, and also spoke about their initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of compatriots. In addition, representatives of the diaspora provided some insight to the Minister into the activities of their social associations. Having listened to the wishes of the diaspora, the Foreign Minister answered the questions voiced and assured that all the questions raised would be taken under control. In this context, he also informed about the recent establishment of the Council for Relations with Compatriots under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. On December 8, 2018, Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev visited Interfruit LLC, a dried fruit processing facility in Uch-Korgon, Batken oblast. Joined by USAID Mission Director Gary Linden, Prime Minister Abylgaziev familiarized himself with the facility and how it sources locally grown fruits to supply global markets. Interfruit LLC is a Kyrgyz-Tajik joint venture established in 2017 in partnership with the U.S. Government’s Agency for International Development (USAID). This partnership was designed to support the local value chains for apricots, plums, apples, walnuts, and various other dried fruits produced in Southern Kyrgyzstan. USAID’s support includes the procurement of new equipment to improve quality control and consistency. This allowed for increased production, enabling Interfruit to process up to 2,400 tons per year. During the tour, Prime Minister expressed strong appreciation to USAID for its support, stressing that such enterprises create permanent jobs and benefit farmers enabling them to sell their fresh produce. “We will provide all possible assistance to enterprises whose activities are aimed at the development of the country's agriculture,” said Muhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev. The Interfruit partnership is one of 58 that was created by the USAID Agro-Horizon Project. This five-year, $22 million endeavor contributes to the growth of the Kyrgyz economy by increasing the competitiveness of the agriculture sector in partnership with the private sector. It is being implemented in the Batken, Jalal-Abad, Naryn, and Osh oblasts. Beyond job creation, these partnerships support thousands of smallholder farmers and contribute to growing exports of Kyrgyz products.
