A GetGo car caught fire on Lornie Highway on Tuesday (Aug 25) afternoon.In a video posted by sgfollowsall on Instagram, the white car is seen parked along the road shoulder while the front half of the vehicle is ablaze.Thick grey smoke is also seen billowing from the vehicle.In response to queries from AsiaOne, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that the incident took place at around 12pm and involved the engine compartment of a car.SCDF managed to extinguish the fire using a hosereel and no injuries were reported.The cause of fire is under investigation, it added.A spokesperson for GetGo told AsiaOne that it was alerted to the incident and immediately activated a team to provide the necessary support.«We are glad to share that no injuries were sustained and we will continue to provide ongoing support to the user as needed,» they said.The spokesperson added that they are taking the incident «very seriously», and are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the potential causes.[[nid:743437]]dana.leong@asiaone.com

Man who sent multiple abusive emails to MHA and police to be charged

A 47-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (Aug 26) for allegedly using insulting and abusive words towards public servants.In a news release on Tuesday, police said that the man had sent multiple emails to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and them between March 14 and May 16 this year.According to the police, the emails contained insulting and abusive remarks directed at SPF officers, and were sent to express his dissatisfaction with his interactions with the police.Police did not say what these interactions were about. The 47-year-old will be charged with the offence of using insulting and abusive words towards public servants under the Protection from Harassment Act.If found guilty of the said offence, the man could be jailed for up to 12 months, fined up to $5,000, or both.The police said that they have zero tolerance for harassment and abusive conduct directed at police officers and public servants carrying out their duties.«The Police will not hesitate to take firm action against those who engage in such conduct in accordance with the law,» they added.[[nid:737842]]

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers cut open the seat of a Malaysia-registered car during an enhanced check at Woodlands Checkpoint on Aug 10.Photographs posted by ICA on its Facebook page on Tuesday (Aug 25) show the back of a car seat cut open, revealing cartons of cigarettes hidden inside. Several cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes were found concealed within the driver's seat of the Malaysia-registered car.
