A 25-year-old man has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in a series of e-commerce scams involving Pokemon trading cards.In a media release on Friday (Feb 6) evening, the police said they received 35 reports from victims since October 2025, with losses amounting over $135,000.The victims were allegedly cheated by the man who advertised the pre-order sales of limited edition Pokemon trading cards on Carousell.He was identified by officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division through follow-up investigations and arrested on Thursday.He will be charged in court for cheating on Saturday.If found guilty of the said offence, the man may be jailed for up to ten years and fined.The police added that since Oct 1, 2025, there have been at least 609 cases of e-commerce scams involving the sale of Pokemon trading cards reported, with total losses amounting to at least $1.1 million.
Five persons, aged between 29 and 49, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in vice-related activities, said the Singapore Police Force on Friday (Feb 6) night.The five persons, comprising three women and two men, were arrested between Feb 5 and 6, following raids by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in the vicinity of Depot Road and Joo Chiat Road.Police said they seized mobile phones, automated teller machine (ATM) receipts and vice-related paraphernalia during the raids.One of the two men, aged 40, will be charged in court on Saturday for allegedly facilitating the operation of the an online vice syndicate.If found guilty of facilitating the provision of sexual services in return for payment or reward, he may be jailed for up to five years, fined up to $100,000, or both.Police investigations into the other four persons are ongoing.The police also warned that they will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in syndicated vice activities and will not hesitate to take firm action against offenders in accordance with the law.[[nid:729344]]

SINGAPORE – No case of Nipah virus infection associated with the cases in West Bengal and Bangladesh has been reported in Singapore, the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) said on Feb 7.In a statement, CDA said that it is aware of a case of Nipah virus infection reported in Naogaon District, Rajshahi Division in northern Bangladesh and is closely monitoring the situation.“Nipah virus is endemic in Bangladesh, with recurring seasonal outbreaks linked to the consumption of raw date palm sap contaminated by fruit bats,” it said.The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Feb 6 that a woman had died in northern Bangladesh in January after contracting Nipah virus infection.“According to the WHO, the case in Bangladesh involved an adult who had a history of drinking raw date palm sap, a known risk factor for Nipah virus infection.”There is currently no evidence that the case in Bangladesh is related to the cases in West Bengal, India, or of any human to human transmission in Bangladesh, CDA added.There is also no active community spread in Bangladesh and West Bengal, India.
Ninety-nine suspected drug offenders were arrested in Central Narcotics Bureau's (CNB) nationwide anti-drug operation from Feb 2 to 6.CNB said in a press release today (Feb 7) that the drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than $38,000.A total of about 210g of cannabis, 146g of heroin, 80g of Ice, 7g of ketamine, 100 Tapentadol tablets, 11 Ecstasy tablets, a small amount of New Psychoactive Substances, a lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamp, a bottle of methadone, numerous vape-related products including 75 e-vaporiser pods believed to contain etomidate, as well as cash amounting to $7,075.35 were seized.The areas covered during the operation included Ang Mo Kio, Chua Chu Kang, Jurong, Marine Parade, Marsiling, and Sembawang.On Feb 3, CNB officers forced-entered and raided a residential unit in Tengah, after the occupants refused to comply with lawful orders to grant officers access to the unit. Two Singaporeans, a 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were arrested for suspected drug-related offences. A small amount of Ice and drug paraphernalia were seized.
