A day out at a popular waterfall in Selangor ended with a Singaporean woman being taken to hospital after she was injured in a fall on Saturday (June 6).The incident occurred at Kanching Waterfall in Rawang, where emergency responders were called in to assist the woman after she reportedly sustained injuries in the area.In a Facebook post, the Rawang Fire and Rescue Department said its Alpha Team «attended to a special services case involving a Singaporean citizen who fell in the Kanching Waterfall area, Rawang».Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers carried out an operation to safely bring the woman down from the area.Photos shared by the department show firefighters carrying a stretcher along forested trails as they evacuated the victim from the waterfall.The woman was subsequently handed over handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia for examination and further action. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of her injuries.The fire department said the operation was completed smoothly with the cooperation of all parties involved.

A 26-year-old man seen sitting precariously on the corridor ledge at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block in Tampines on Sunday (June 7) morning was apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act after he was rescued.The incident happened at about 7.10am at Block 499C Tampines Avenue 9.A video posted on Sgfollowsall's Telegram channel shows the man sitting on a corridor ledge along the sixth floor of the said block, with his legs dangling off the ledge.At least one Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire engine, a rescue tender vehicle, and one light fire attack vehicle were at the scene. A safety life pack was also seen being deployed along the driveway below where the man was seated.Several police fast response cars were also seen at the driveway below the block.An eyewitness, who submitted the video to the channel, wrote in the captions that responding firefighters managed to calm the man down and were able to bring him back to safety. The eyewitness also noted that SCDF's Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) was deployed.

A man who was awarded 95 per cent of nearly $23 million in matrimonial assets in 2025 has filed an appeal against the High Court decision, according to written grounds issued recently.The husband had contended that most of the assets held in his name or jointly with his children from a previous marriage should be excluded from the pool of matrimonial assets.He argued that the assets had been acquired before the current marriage or bought with funds earned before it.However, this claim was rejected by Justice Pang Khang Chau, who included $22.4 million worth of the man’s assets in the matrimonial pool.These included a property in Stevens Close, another property in Tudor Close, and money in multiple bank accounts.The wife’s assets amounted to more than $503,000.The judge valued the matrimonial pool at $22.9 million and divided it in the ratio of 95:5 in the husband’s favour.This meant that his share was $21.8 million, while the wife’s was $1.1 million.To implement the division, the judge ordered the husband to transfer more than $624,000 to the wife.

Twenty-eight HDB projects in towns such as Tampines, Bidadari and Punggol could get new rubbish chute hoppers to prevent residents from disposing of bulky items into the chutes.This comes after instances of chokes in the pneumatic waste conveyance system (PWCS), caused by the improper disposal of bulky items and renovation debris, were reported by The Straits Times in 2025.The Housing Board on April 27 called a tender for the supply and installation of full volume-controlled refuse chute hoppers – the doors to the rubbish chutes – which have a smaller opening and a mechanism at the back to prevent the disposal of large or long items into the refuse chutes.The chokes are often caused by indiscriminate dumping of items such as large cardboard boxes, curtain rods, mop handles, buckets and renovation debris.The new hoppers are set to be retrofitted in older Build-To-Order (BTO) developments that use the PWCS.Tender documents on government procurement portal GeBIZ stated that the hopper must be designed to accommodate bagged waste measuring at least 30cm in diameter, but no more than 80 per cent of the conveyance pipe’s diameter.

Two people died in a traffic accident along Second Link towards Malaysia on Friday (June 5) night.The couple was reportedly on a Singapore-registered motorcycle and had allegedly collided with a vehicle at around 8.30pm.A video posted that night in Facebook group JB-Singapore Both Checkpoint Sharing Site by user Zhang Xuanbin (transliteration) showed a motorcycle lying on its side on the road. Two victims can be seen a short distance away from the vehicle.A voice in the clip asked motorists to be careful, adding the victims were on the second lane of the road.In another Facebook video captured by a pillion rider who passed by the accident scene, heavy congestion can be seen along the highway.Authorities are also seen cordoning off two lanes on the left side of the highway, with the victims' face covered with cloths.The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority posted about the accident on social media around 9.35pm, advising travellers to expect delays.They later updated at 10.48pm that roads had been cleared and all lanes were back in operation.

A 32-year-old man was arrested for traffic-related offences and suspected drug-related offences following a five-hour standoff with police at a Yishun HDB flat on Saturday (June 6).Speaking to AsiaOne, a neighbour from the affected block who wished to be known only as Lim said there were nights when the man caused disturbances throwing items and shouting in the wee hours of the morning.«There were times when his car alarm would go off, and residents on the lower floors would get very frustrated as it affected their sleep,» said Lim, a retiree in her 60s.Another resident, who wished to be known as Huang, also noted similar incidents.«The man only moved in about half a year ago and ever since then, a lot of things have happened, including his car alarm going off,» said Huang, who's in his 50s.  Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police said they received a call for assistance at Block 150 Yishun Street 11 at about 6pm.  Upon arrival, officers established that a car had hit a parked car and crashed into the void deck of said block. SINGAPORE - As an elderly man jaywalked on Serangoon Avenue 3 on May 20, a yellow taxi approached him and he stopped in the middle of the road to avoid the vehicle as it went past.Just as he continued crossing the road, a motorcycle appeared and the man had to stop again as the bike almost hit him.An accident had been narrowly averted, but the incident could have ended tragically.Several elderly pedestrians The Straits Times spoke to said they knew it was dangerous to jaywalk but did so as it was faster than walking to the nearest pedestrian crossing.Singapore roads are at their most dangerous in years, with traffic deaths hitting a 10-year high of 149 in 2025, compared with 141 in 2016. A fire broke out on a yacht berthed at Sentosa Cove on Sunday (June 7) morning, with the vessel seen engulfed in flames and thick smoke billowing into the air.An eyewitness who goes by the handle Dontellufishing said in his TikTok livestream the incident occurred at One15 Marina Club at Sentosa Cove.He said he had set out on a jet ski at around 7am for a fishing trip when he spotted the fire at around 8.45am and returned for a closer look.«I just hope nobody gets hurt, especially the crew, (as there) were many small explosions,» he said.The eyewitness added that the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were already at the scene. He approached an officer to ask whether the fire was likely to spread and was informed that it was possible, before being advised to move further away from the scene as a precaution.  «Props to the firefighters for helping out. SINGAPORE – Citing medical fees and loss of future earnings as a physiotherapist, a cyclist who was hit by a motorcyclist on Nicoll Highway in 2021 sought over $500,000 in a civil suit.However, deputy registrar Sim Mei Ling awarded the cyclist, Gino Ernest Ng, around $55,000 after finding his claims for future earnings speculative.According to a judgment dated May 25, Ng was cycling on Nicoll Highway when the motorcyclist, Ang Eng Peng, collided with him.The September 2021 accident left Ng with a spinal fracture and abrasions on his right knee and right forearm. He was placed on hospitalisation leave from Sept 4, 2021, to Nov 30, 2021.In court, Ng’s medical expert testified that his spinal fracture would cause pain and chronic discomfort when treating patients. He noted that if Ng worked more than six hours, he would need a break the next day or require treatment from his colleagues.Conversely, Ang’s medical expert said Ng’s fracture had healed well and would not significantly impair his ability to work.Ng returned to work in December 2021 at his physiotherapy clinic, where he is a director and 50 per cent shareholder.

A car swerved and mounted onto the walkway of a Bedok HDB block and crashed into what appears to be a dry riser on Friday (June 5) evening. The 69-year-old driver was then sent to the hospital for further medical checks.In a post uploaded to social media by Minister of State for East Coast GRC Tan Kiat How on Friday, he said that the car had swerved and mounted the pavement along the driveway between 201 and 202 Bedok North Street 1 that evening.He then expressed relief over how there were no serious injuries as nobody was in the path when the accident happened.«Thankfully, no pedestrians or other motorists were injured. The police has issued Disabling Directions (DD) under the Online Criminal Harms Act 2023 against YouTube, Facebook and X following the spread of content targeting the Indian community in Singapore.Narratives have been circulating in the Chinese-language information space over the last month that «Singapore is displaying anxiety over our cultural identity and ethnic politics» and there has been inflammatory content posted about Singapore's cultural identity and notions that the country is being «overrun by Indians», the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a press release on Saturday (June 6).The DD has been issued to block access to 14 such posts.Speaking to the media, Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong said that the posts, which are of foreign origin, attack Singapore's multiracial society and «try to divide people based on race.»«This, however, is not who we are,» he continued. « Every community in Singapore here is valued and everyone has an equal place. So, these videos strike at the very foundation of what makes Singapore home for all of us and they undermine the very basis of our society.»

Four persons, aged between 26 and 38, will be charged in court on Saturday (June 6) for their alleged involvement in fraudulently registering SIM cards that facilitated criminal activities.Police said in a news release on Friday night that the individuals, comprising two men and two women, were arrested during an enforcement operation in Tuas on June 4.The operation targeted errant retailers who were allegedly engaged in the registration of postpaid SIM cards that were subsequently used by overseas syndicates in crime.According to the police, the 34-year-old man and two women had allegedly used the information of actual customers to pre-register for additional postpaid SIM cards. The mobile lines that were registered were subsequently used in impersonation scams.The fourth person, a 26-year-old man was allegedly being taught how to do so.Meanwhile, investigations against another three men, aged between 30 and 65, are ongoing.Those convicted of facilitating the fraudulent registration of SIM cards that facilitate criminal activity will face a fine of up to $10,000, jail of up to three years, or both.

An artist who draws on pavements with chalk and a power washer was reported to the police after creating artwork on a sidewalk near a train station in Mountbatten. In a TikTok video on Friday (June 5), Marcus Pang shared that five hours into his project, he was stopped by Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) staff as someone had complained about him spraying chemicals onto the grass. «I laughed it off, stating that it was probably the gasoline from my power washer, and that I was using rainwater to power wash the dirty concrete,» the 24-year-old said. However, SMRT staff detained him, stating that he did not have a permit to create such artwork.In response, Marcus said he did not require a permit to do so.  @gazing.pw

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced on Saturday (June 6) that a Tanzania-registered container vessel, Golden Star 1, had sunk in the Singapore Strait on Friday night.MPA added that the incident happened about 6km off Batam at about 10.30pm.It added that the vessel reportedly took on water and subsequently sank.All nine crew members were later rescued by Indonesian authorities.Checks by AsiaOne on shipping tracking platforms show that the vessel's last known position is north of Sekupang in Batam, and to the south of East Coast Park.

A critically endangered Sunda pangolin that was rescued from a washing machine is ready to be released back into the wild, the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) said in a Facebook post on Thursday (June 4).The pangolin had crawled into the washing machine near Bukit Batok on the morning of May 25.Acres received a call from a resident about an «unusual animal» lodged beneath the appliance and advised the caller not to turn on the machine, reported The Straits Times (ST).Acres' rescue team took around 20 to 40 minutes to coax the pangolin out, as the species tends to cling tightly onto surfaces.

A 32-year-old Singaporean man believed to be linked to an organised crime group in Cambodia that scammed Singaporeans will be charged in court on Saturday (June 6).Francis Tan Thuan Heng had been placed on an initial list of 34 suspects — 27 Singaporeans and seven Malaysians — wanted by the Singapore police over their alleged involvement with the group. The list was expanded to include two more Singaporeans on May 5.  Jonathan Boneta, 27, and 33-year-old Lee Ding Hao, who are purportedly out of Singapore, were identified after further investigations.

Even when employers offer new or similar roles for workers after their jobs have been made redundant, these employees are considered to have been retrenched, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) told AsiaOne on Friday (June 5).Both the ministry and labour movement also asked that companies treat retrenchments as a last resort.There has been a trend of some businesses asking workers to reapply for roles under the guise of «new opportunities», either locally or overseas, after their existing one have been made redundant.Under the law, employers with at least 10 workers must submit a retrenchment notification to MOM within five working days of notifying affected staff. SINGAPORE — To fund his lavish lifestyle, a man orchestrated traffic accidents between September 2019 and January 2024 to get private cash settlements from innocent drivers.Danial Ali Liaqat Ali, 28, was involved in at least 73 road traffic accidents over four years. Most of them were staged.On June 5, he was sentenced to 32 weeks’ jail and fined $6,000.He will also be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 48 months after his release from prison.Danial pleaded guilty to 12 charges, including cheating, dangerous driving and inconsiderate driving.Another 25 charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.While driving, Danial would look for opportunities to engineer a near-collision or a collision with another vehicle.He would drive dangerously close to them, deliberately failing to brake, or accelerating into them to cause a side-swipe collision.Following each incident, Danial would approach the drivers and demand a private cash settlement of between $180 and $1,500 from the drivers.Court documents did not state how much he received in total from the fake accidents.

A Singaporean father has turned to fundraising to raise about $400,000 after doctors told him that his son urgently needs heart surgery, according to fundraising platform Give.Asia.Muhammad Rauf, 16, was born with a rare and complex congenital heart condition, said the Singapore-based platform.His father, Muhd Hidayat, who created the Give.Asia page, wrote that doctors diagnosed his condition as a «single ventricle physiology», which is a severe cardiac defect associated with numerous additional complications.In January 2026, his condition deteriorated significantly.

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers had to bring out their crowbars yet again as they pried open the undercarriage of another Malaysia-registered bus during an enhanced inspection at Woodlands Checkpoint last Tuesday (May 26).The latest incident comes barely two weeks after another Malaysia-registered bus hid more than 3,200 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes in various compartments, including under the bus' floorboard.In a video posted on social media, ICA officers are seen in prone position within the bus' luggage compartment inspecting what appears to be a welded panel with small openings seen at a section of the joint area. Officers then used a crowbar to tear apart panels, revealing several cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes tucked deep within. Lashing straps are then used to create a «hook» to pull out cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes which were bundled together.

A dispute over alleged seating arrangements between two diners broke out at Haig Road Market & Food Centre on Wednesday morning (June 3) and escalated into a physical altercation. The diners — a man and a woman — reportedly quarrelled and hurled hot porridge and drinks at each other, according to Shin Min Daily News.A 45-year-old man who sells backpacks outside the hawker centre, and who wished to be known only as Lin, told reporters that the woman involved in the altercation was his wife.He added that she was taken to the hospital for treatment after experiencing breathing difficulties caused by the shock of the incident.A video of the post-incident scene shared by the Chinese daily shows police officers investigating the case and speaking to the man outside a drinks stall, while the woman was seen being taken away in an ambulance.Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police confirmed that a report had been lodged. Five women were arrested and three massage parlours are being investigated, following enforcement operations carried out by the police against errant massage parlours on Thursday (June 4).All five women are being investigated for vice activities, namely offering sexual services in exchange for money, while the massage establishments are being investigated for regulatory breaches, said the police in a news release on Friday.AsiaOne was among the media invited to the raids led by officers from Jurong Police Division where women aged between 36 and 51 were arrested for allegedly providing sexual services under the guise of massages. The first massage parlour was located on the second floor of a shopping centre in Boon Lay.

Three motorcyclists were taken to hospital after a four-vehicle accident along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) on Friday (June 5) morning.The accident, involving three motorcycles and a car, happened at about 8.50am along the PIE heading towards Changi, before the Eng Neo Avenue exit. Some damage could be seen on the SUV's right rear bumper. 

A total of 30 motorists were caught for various traffic offences at Woodlands Checkpoint over the recent Vesak Day long weekend, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a statement on Friday (June 5).These stepped-up traffic enforcement operations were conducted by ICA officers from between May 28 and June 1, aimed to detect and deter drivers engaging in queue cutting, illegal manoeuvres, and other dangerous road behaviour.The enforcement actions unfolded at the checkpoint's departure area, where officers clamped down on a variety of dangerous driving practices.
