WESTERN BUREAU: Discovery Bay High School in St Ann is hailing its four-year-old Grade Nine Acceleration Programme (GNAP) – which exposes students to the rigours of the Caribbean Secondary Education Council (CSEC) – as a major success story and is urging other schools to adopt it to raise their pass rates. The programme allows students to begin CSEC preparation in grade nine rather than the traditional grade 10. It was introduced three years after the school’s opening in 2019.

Western Bureau: Twelve-year-old Shaville Moodie, a first-form student at Frome Technical High School in Westmoreland, says she feels “unhappy” and “uncomfortable” after injuries from a motorcycle crash forced her to miss her internal examinations. A prosecution witness in the Clansman Gang trial told the court he returned from a shop to find a friend lying across the verandah of his home with multiple gunshot wounds and another man bloodied. A total of 178 active mobility devices (AMD) were impounded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) last month. In a Facebook post on Tuesday (March 10), the authority said its officers conducted various enforcement operations targeting errant riders, including youths, in February and detected 477 offences. LTA reiterated that users of active mobility devices must meet the minimum age of 16 and pass the mandatory theory test before they are allowed to ride on cycling paths. «We'll continue to take firm action against errant AM users to ensure the safety of all users on public paths and roads,» it said. A man will be charged in court on Tuesday (March 10) with the murder of an elderly man in Geylang on Monday. The 48-year-old suspect faces the death penalty if convicted of killing the 70-year-old victim. In a statement on Tuesday, the police said they were alerted to a fight along Lorong 16 Geylang at about 8.15am on Monday. The victim found injured at the scene and sent unconscious to hospital, where he died. Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested at the scene and taken conscious to hospital. Preliminary investigations show that the duo knew each other, said the police. The victim was reported to have been the suspect's former employer and was stabbed in the chest during the fight. Pump prices in Singapore may rise further on Tuesday (March 10) after Shell became the first company to raise its posted prices for all grades of fuel. In an update on its price board posted at 9am, Shell indicated that it has raised its price for the popular 95-octane petrol to $3.31, 98-octane petrol to $3.83, and its premium V-Power to $4.05. Meanwhile, its posted price for diesel rose to $3.24. The increases were by 26 cents for diesel and its 95- and 98-octane petrol; and, 29 cents for V-Power.
