'Badly damaged' Eunos Industrial building to be shut for checks after fire: BCA

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has ordered the single-storey industrial building with a metal roof that caught fire on Nov 1 to close for further assessments and rectifications.In a statement on Sunday (Nov 2), the authority said the building - at 1079 Eunos Avenue 7 - is «badly damaged» by the fire.«BCA will be serving orders to the building owner to close off the building for further detailed assessment and rectifications to be carried out,» the authority said. It added that the owner is required to appoint a professional engineer (PE) to advise on the necessary precautionary measures to obviate any immediate danger. The PE is also required to carry out detailed investigations of the affected structure and recommend permanent rectification works.

Thai police have apprehended 24 suspected members of an international crime syndicate who allegedly fled Myanmar and were hiding in a luxury villa in Samut Prakan and a hotel in Bangkok.The Facebook page of the Royal Thai Police announced on Friday (Oct 31) that among those apprehended were nationals from the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and China.The Nation Thailand reported that one suspect was Singaporean, while the Thai Enquirer stated there were two.The Facebook post stated: «On Oct 29, 2025, Division 2 of the CSD (Crime Suppression Division) led police officers to inspect a luxury pool villa in the border province of ​​Samut Prakan. A 15-year-old was among 38 persons arrested for their suspected involvement in scams as money mules. Another nine, including a 16-year-old, are assisting with investigations.This follows an island-wide anti-scam enforcement operation conducted over a four-day period between Oct 28 and 31.The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a press release on Saturday (Nov 1) that those arrested are aged between 15 and 52, while those assisting with investigations are aged between 16 and 55.SPF's Commercial Affairs Department and the seven police land divisions conducted the operation after a surge in scam cases between September and October, where victims lost money through fraudulent PayNow QR codes generated through YouTrip.Multiple scam types, including internet love scam, used by scammersAccording to the police, the scammers generated PayNow QR codes through YouTrip and sent them to victims under false pretences, claiming the codes were required for legitimate payments or account verification.
