The body of a 52-year-old man was found at the foot of Block 208 Choa Chu Kang Central at about 6.45am on Saturday (May 16).Photographs of the incident posted on a Facebook page show a fully-dressed man lying face down on the pavement at the foot of the said block.In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the man, who is believed to have fallen from height, was found lying motionless at the foot of the said block.He was pronounced dead at scene by a SCDF paramedic.  The police added that they do not suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.Investigations into the case of unnatural death is ongoing.

Motorcyclist, 38, dies in early morning Causeway accident while returning to Singapore

A 38-year-old male motorcyclist died in an early morning accident at the Causeway on Saturday (May 16) morning. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a social media post at 2.26am that a traffic accident had occurred along the Causeway towards Singapore. It added that three out of four lanes were blocked and advised motorists to expect delays.In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to the accident at about 2am. The 38-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed to Woodlands Hospital where he subsequently died.AsiaOne understands that he leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter and wife.Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcyclist is believed to have self-skidded.Police investigations are ongoing.[[nid:735784]]editor@asiaone.com

Electric vehicle (EV) motorists working or living in Tengah can now look forward to more charging convenience with the opening of a fast charging hub — the first in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) car park.Operated by SP Mobility, the hub — located at the HDB car park serving residential blocks 123 and 129, beside Plantation Plaza — was launched on Saturday (May 16).The new facility provides a total of 14 charging points, which comprises a mix of eight direct current (DC) fast charging points of up to 100 kilowatts (kW) and six alternating current (AC) charging points at 7.4 kW each.In terms of pricing, SP Mobility said its AC and DC charging rates will follow the same rates for its other charges in HDB car parks.

When the flight attendants asked if there were any doctors on board during this flight, they got a two-for-one deal.Wu Jinfeng and Chen Peijun (transliteration), a married couple who are both doctors, were on a Singapore Airlines flight from Christchurch, New Zealand, to Singapore on May 11 when a fellow passenger suffered anaphylactic shock.The 34-year-old Malaysians stepped in to save the man, providing emergency treatment and preventing the flight from being diverted, they recounted to Lianhe Zaobao.To the rescueWu and Chen heard a call for assistance from flight attendants after lunch at around 1.30pm New Zealand time (9.30am Singapore time) and immediately offered assistance.The stricken man had been unconscious for about two minutes at this point and had just regained consciousness according to his wife, the doctors shared.They found his condition to be unstable, with a heart rate of only 38 beats per minute and a blood oxygen content of 88 per cent. They also found his tongue and lips to be swollen, and erythema (red rash) on his body.

Two Malaysian nationals were charged by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) on May 8 for the alleged smuggling of etomidate-laced vapourisers, also known as Kpods.The HSA shared in a press release on May 15 that Muhammad Izzat Emer Bin Mohd Hassan, 26, and Nurain Binti Ismail, 24, are the first to be charged for importation under Singapore's new Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act (TCVA), which replaced the previous Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act starting May 1, 2026.The pair were detained by Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers on May 6 while entering Singapore through the Woodlands Checkpoint in a Malaysia-registered car.12,273 vape pods concealed in 161 parcels were discovered hidden in the vehicle, suspected to contain etomidate and amounting to a street value of over $800,000.The incident was referred to the HSA.

A cat was found dead in a rubbish chute in Yishun with a cable tie around its neck, in what a community cat group described as a deliberate and savage killing.The incident has been reported to the National Parks Board (NParks), which said it is investigating the matter. In a Facebook post on Thursday (May 14), the group said its volunteer was alerted by Nee Soon Town Council on May 10 after a cleaner discovered the carcass in one of the rubbish chutes at Block 398 Yishun Ring Road. According to the images shared in the post, the black cat, which had an untipped ear, was found wrapped in a red plastic bag and discarded into the chute. The group said it had verified that the animal was not a community cat.
