A family in Woodlands recently found themselves playing host to some unexpected — and adorable — neighbours.After a pair of olive-backed sunbirds built a nest in a potted plant outside their HDB flat in June, the family spent over a month watching the birds raise two chicks, which eventually became so comfortable around humans that they were seen perching on residents' fingers.In a Facebook post shared in the group Singapore Wildlife Sightings on Sunday (July 12), the homeowner, Qiu Fen Deng (transliterated), 55, wrote that the chicks had «officially fledged their nest and are exploring the neighbourhood».«It's been such a joy watching this little family build nest from June 4, [with the] first sighting of babies on July 4 [before they finally] fledged off on July 12,» he wrote.The 55-year-old aviation propulsion engineering supervisor told Lianhe Zaobao that the sunbird parents began building their nest on June 4 among the branches of a potted plant outside his flat.

A woman said she was «impressed» when Singapore Airlines cabin crew launched a full-scale rescue mission to retrieve her ring after it fell into a gap in her plane seat.A video shared on social media on Monday (July 13) by user @cforcassan shows a male crew member lying on the ground as he searches beneath the passenger's seat for the lost ring. «Your ring falls into the depths of your plant seat and the entire cabin crew launches a rescue mission,» the video captioned. The woman, whose account handle is Cassandra Tan, said that she had gotten the ring in Shanghai from a Chinese brand called Hefang. Checks by AsiaOne show that the rings can cost up to US$240 (S$310) on the brand's website. «They constructed an entire tool with whatever they had on the plane. This is now a core memory for me,» said Tan.The makeshift tool consisted of two chopsticks and a DIY hook made from a bobby pin, taped together with what looked like plasters. Tan added that she was supposed to wait for the engineers to come on board after the plane landed.

An elderly uncle known for his ability to imitate everyday sounds has once again drawn attention online, after a new video showcasing his skills and tricks surfaced.Known affectionately as «Tok Tok Man», Lai Kok Chuen, who is in his 70s, previously appeared in viral videos for his unique performances.In a TikTok video shared on Sunday (July 12), Lai can be heard imitating various sounds, including ambulance sirens, police sirens and phone alarms. He is also seen performing a balancing trick with an umbrella.The person who shared the video wrote that they had met the «wholesome uncle» at a bus stop, where he was also carrying his trademark QR code linking to a video of himself.«He deserves so much love,» wrote the person.The video has since garnered more than 57,000 views and 4,500 reactions. It was previously reported that Lai was a roaming noodle seller in the past, who carried bamboo instruments to attract customers.

A 46-year-old man was arrested for dangerous driving causing hurt after a collision involving a car and a motorcycle in Jalan Besar on Sunday (July 12).Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to an accident at the junction of Kitchener Road and Jalan Besar at about 9.40pm. A video of the incident shared on Facebook page SGRV Admin shows a car travelling through the junction while the traffic light in the opposite direction was red.A motorcycle was seen travelling straight through the junction before colliding with the car. A 29-year-old Singaporean man was charged in court on Monday (July 13) over his alleged involvement in a case of criminal trespass and voyeurism at a commercial building in Whampoa. The man, who cannot be named due to a court-imposed gag order protecting the victim's identity, faces one charge each for criminal trespass and voyeurism.
