«Please just return it to me.»That is Miss Universe Singapore Annika Xue Sager's appeal, after spending the last 48 hours tracking her missing bag across Singapore through Apple's Find My app.In an Instagram video posted on Wednesday (Aug 5), she shared how she lost the bag at around 7am two days earlier, while riding her motorcycle to work.Her bag had accidentally fallen off her motorcycle along Swiss Club Road, she said. Sager told AsiaOne that she realised the bag was missing when she arrived at her destination, which was also along Swiss Club Road.As soon as she realised it was gone, she used the Find My app to track her Airpods, which were in the bag, and immediately rode her motorcycle back to the location.«I was back at the spot in less than five minutes, but my bag had already disappeared,» Sager said in the video.Sager was crowned the winner of Miss Universe Singapore in 2025. She noted that there was a guardhouse with a CCTV camera near 7 Swiss Club Road, where the app had shown her AirPods' last location. 

Eleven drivers have been caught for allegedly providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services, and their vehicles impounded, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 5).The authority said the operation was carried out following tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association and the National Taxi Association.LTA also reminded commuters travelling to Johor Bahru over the long National Day weekend to use only licensed cross-border ride-hailing services or Singapore-registered cross-border taxis.«For your safety, only book a licensed cross-border ride-hailing service on Grab or have a Singapore-registered cross-border taxi pick you up anywhere in Singapore for drop-off in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai or Senai,» said LTA.The latest enforcement comes after Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said in a Facebook post on July 21 that more than 5,000 vehicles had been checked since July 2025.

Singapore's United Overseas Bank (UOB) is selling its asset management business to a unit of Germany's Allianz for $555 million, as the lender focuses on wealth advice and distribution.The deal marks insurer Allianz's second Singapore-related acquisition announced in about two weeks, following its July 24 deal to buy HSBC's life and health insurance business in the city-state for $2.7 billion.Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI), the asset management arm of Allianz, will buy all of UOB's shares in UOB Asset Management, which operates in Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, according to statements from the two companies on Wednesday.The deal includes excess cash held by UOB Asset Management and a 10-year distribution agreement, AllianzGI said.UOB Asset Management managed about $42 billion of client assets as of Dec 31, 2025, UOB said. The purchase will raise AllianzGI's assets managed for clients in Asia-Pacific to more than €170 billion (S$217.9 billion), it said.

Around 5.5 million bottles and cans have been recycled through the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) since the launch in April, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Janil Puthucheary said in Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5).«We expect this number to grow as more BCRS-labelled products enter the market,» Dr Janil estimated, adding that over a million successful refunds have been made.These refunds are 10 cents each for every eligible drink container returned to Return Right machines found across Singapore as part of the BCRS.Under the scheme, drinks with the BCRS mark have also increased by 10 cents.Dr Janil was responding to a parliamentary question from Sembawang GRC MP Mariam Jaafar, who requested clarification on the scheme since its launch.She also questioned how any surplus from the 10-cent increase is accounted for and what happens to the surplus obtained under the scheme.«Most transactions and returns at reverse vending machines have been successful,» Dr Janil said.

A dispute over a car rental agreement spiralled into a police car chase from Sembawang to Woodlands on Tuesday (Aug 4) morning, resulting in the arrest of four persons — two men and two women — aged between 30 and 38.Police said in a news release on Wednesday morning that they received a report of a man being threatened by a group of persons with a parang.According to the police, the incident took place at about 1.55am at a carpark along Canberra Street.Their preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was confronted by the quartet due to a dispute over a car rental agreement.During the dispute, a 38-year-old man from the group allegedly brandished a parang and threatened the victim, who was then made to sit in the front passenger seat of his vehicle, with another 36-year-old man seated at the back.Car collided into lamp postThey then drove off to another location where officers from Woodlands Police Division spotted them.Upon sighting the police, the 38-year-old man purportedly fled in the vehicle with the victim and the 36-year-old man as passengers. The police then gave chase.

A property agent's visit to a HDB flat uncovered an alleged tenancy dispute after several occupants were found living in the unit despite allegedly owing rent and not being listed on the tenancy agreement.In a TikTok video shared on Friday (July 31), the property agent was heard informing the occupants that they could not continue living in the flat until the tenancy arrangement was settled.«You all cannot stay here. Call your boss first, then we will see what the police says,» said the agent, adding that there were more than six occupants in the flat, exceeding the allowed occupancy limit.AsiaOne understands that the unit is a three-room HDB flat in Tampines.According to the HDB website, the maximum number of tenants allowed in a three-room flat is six.When confronted, the occupants could be heard in the video saying that their employer had allegedly stopped paying their salaries, was no longer responding to them, and was overseas. 

A total of 5,176 persons were arrested for drink driving between 2023 to 2025, while 6,950 cases were sentenced during the same period, said Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security K. Shanmugam on Tuesday (Aug 4).Shanmugam, who is also Minister for Home Affairs, was responding to a parliamentary question from Workers' Party MP Assoc Prof Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC), who had asked for the duration of driving bans, fines imposed and jail terms handed down to offenders sentenced to imprisonment. In his written reply, the senior minister pointed out that arrest and sentencing statistics in a particular year are not directly comparable as persons arrested in a year may only be charged and/or sentenced in a later year.This is due to the time required for investigations and court proceedings, Shanmugam explained.Providing a breakdown for the 6,950 cases sentenced in the said period, he said that about 47 per cent, or 3,283 cases, received driving bans averaging 38 months in duration. Of these, 40 cases received lifetime driving bans. 

Police investigations are ongoing after a man was caught allegedly damaging a car's windshield wiper at a mall in Simei.Footage of the incident was uploaded to Facebook by SGRV Admin and reportedly took place on Monday (Aug 3) at about 6.15pm on the third floor of the carpark at Eastpoint Mall.In the video, a man can be seen approaching the car before forcefully grabbing onto the windshield wiper and attempting to break it in half.The man first pushes the wiper downwards before pulling it in the opposite direction and pushing it backwards.The video ends with the man walking away after apparently damaging the windshield wiper.A photo of the deformed windshield wiper was also included in the video, where it can be seen visibly bent out of shape.In the caption, the owner of the car wrote that the windscreen wiper was deliberately bent, and that it caused damage «not only to the wiper but also to front bonnet and vinyl wrap».«This was an unnecessary act of vandalism that has caused avoidable damage and inconvenience,» the owner added, urging the culprit to take responsibility for his actions.

A car caught fire on Tampines Expressway (TPE) towards Seletar Expressway (SLE) at about 10.45pm on Tuesday (Aug 4), near Lorong Halus exit.Videos of the incident posted on social media show flames at the bonnet of the white car.Another video shows a police fast response car parked behind the burning car as firefighters tackle the blaze. By then, flames had already engulfed the entire vehicle.At one point flames reached as high up as the overhanging branches of the trees at the roadside. In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that the fire involved the engine compartment of the car, adding that its firefighters extinguished the fire using a water jet and a compressed air foam trolley.There were no reported injuries in the incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.On July 30, a multi-purpose vehicle caught fire, also on TPE towards SLE.During that incident, 13 bus services were delayed by up to 30 minutes due to the fire, according to the Land Transport Authority's MyTransport app. [[nid:741588]]

If you've been unsuccessful in balloting for National Day Parade (NDP) tickets, don't give up. That's because since 2025, the NDP Executive Committee (EXCO) has had a system in place to boost the chances of applicants who were unsuccessful in previous ballots.Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing revealed this in his written response to a parliamentary question from MP Valerie Lee (Pasir Ris-Changi GRC) on Tuesday (Aug 4).Lee had asked if the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) would review the NDP balloting system to improve public accessibility, including whether unsuccessful applicants over consecutive years could be given a higher chance of securing tickets.She also asked whether Mindef would look into reducing collection times for NDP tickets.Earlier in June, there were claims of three-hour-long queues faced by those collecting NDP tickets at Marina Square.

Changi Airport will begin the first phase of deploying autonomous wheelchairs following successful trials involving more than 13,000 passengers at Terminals 2 and 3.Announcing the rollout in a joint media release on Tuesday (Aug 4), Changi Airport Group (CAG) and ground handling partner SATS said the initiative is aimed at enhancing the travel experience for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs).It is intended to enable PRMs to navigate the terminals more independently, reducing reliance on one-to-one staff assistance, especially during periods of high demand. This will allow ground staff to focus on passengers who require higher levels of care and assistance, CAG and SATS said.The airport expects demand for special assistance services to increase as Singapore's population ages and as air travel continues to grow.Changi Airport recorded a 20 per cent increase in requests for wheelchair assistance between 2023 and 2025, reflecting the growing need for mobility support among travellers.

A Malaysian man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint after attempting to smuggle more than 10kg of drugs, including cannabis and 'Ice', into Singapore.In a press release on Tuesday (Aug 4), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that the 22-year-old man was nabbed on Saturday morning (Aug 1).He had arrived at the checkpoint in a Malaysia-registered car and was directed for enhanced checks by ICA officers.During the checks, officers uncovered a box in the car boot containing two blocks of substances believed to be controlled drugs.Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were subsequently alerted and conducted additional checks that led to the discovery of more drugs in the car boot.In total, around 8.6kg of cannabis and 1.6kg of methamphetamine, known as 'Ice', were seized.According to ICA, the drugs are estimated to be worth over $361,000, and could potentially feed the addiction of about 2,132 abusers for a week.CNB investigations are ongoing. 

A woman has made a police report after alleging that the previous owner of her HDB flat had fraudulently claimed her household's CDC vouchers, prompting a police investigation. Huang (transliterated), a 54-year-old accountant, told Lianhe Zaobao that when she tried to claim her June Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers, she discovered that they had already been redeemed. The 54-year-old then went to a nearby community centre to inquire about the matter and was told by staff members that the vouchers had been claimed by someone bearing the same name as the unit's former male owner. Huang immediately lodged a complaint with the community centre and filed a police report, reported Lianhe Zaobao. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong previously announced that all Singaporeans will be able to claim $500 worth of Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers from June 11. The vouchers will be valid until Dec 31, 2027.

Instead, volunteers walked alongside his coffin and ensured he was given a proper farewell. At the request of MP for Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC Tin Pei Ling, Cheng Hong Welfare Service Society arranged the funeral and cremation of the Circuit Road fire victim.In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday (Aug 4), the charity welfare organisation documented the funeral procession, showing Cheng Hong staff and volunteers accompanying the man's coffin before his cremation.«When this uncle passed away in the fire, his family made the difficult decision not to arrange his funeral. They were estranged,» said the organisation.  «He had no family to bury him. Cheng Hong made sure he wasn't forgotten.»

The Land Transport Authority's (LTA) active mobility enforcement officers detected 21 cases involving non-compliant e-scooters and caught eight personal mobility aid (PMA) users flouting regulations between June and July.In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday (Aug 4), the authority said its officers have continued with enforcement operations since new rules kicked in on June 1, to ensure compliance and safeguard the safety of all path users.Over the period between June and July, LTA said its officers engaged over 100 PMA users to raise awareness of the new rules and promote safe and responsible use of mobility devices.The outreach efforts were complemented by public education campaigns, including the dissemination of infographics, videos and flyers through social media platforms, walkway banners, MRT in-train advertisements and HDB lift lobby displays.Materials were also shared with key stakeholders including mobility scooter retailers, food delivery companies, Active Ageing Centres and public transport operators.

SINGAPORE — Frustrated by the cardboard cat houses placed at a void deck near his home in Bukit Batok, a man set fire to them, causing more than $900 worth of damage to the ground and walls.On Aug 4, Koh Teng Boo, 68, was sentenced to three months’ jail after pleading guilty to committing mischief by fire.Koh, a retiree living in Bukit Batok East Avenue 4, noticed in September 2025 that cardboard structures to house community cats had been put up around a pavilion and void deck near his home.Deputy Public Prosecutor Stephen Yeo said the houses, which were stocked with food and water, provided shelter for stray cats.Koh observed that this led to birds coming to the cat houses and claimed that the structures were prone to attracting pests, said the prosecutor. He raised the issue with his MP.In October 2025, Koh threw three cat houses into an incense burner bin and set them on fire.“The accused claimed that he had done so because no visible action had been taken about the cat houses despite his plea to his Member of Parliament,” said DPP Yeo.Two days later, Koh noticed that more cat houses had been set up around his block.
