The Ministry of Health branch in Gash Barka region reported that promising progress has been registered in controlling communicable diseases in the region. Barentu, 25 January 2019- The Ministry of Health branch in Gash Barka region reported that promising progress has been registered in controlling communicable diseases in the region. The report was made at an activity assessment meeting conducted on 21 and 22 January focusing on the competence and coverage of health service provision. Speaking at the meeting, the head of the branch office, Dr. Hayelom Kidane said that commendable activities have been exerted with strong participation of public in controlling the prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases and successful implementation of measles and rubella vaccination program as well as distribution of Vitamin A. According to reports presented by the health experts, sustainable awareness raising programs have been conducted including in remote areas of the region and as a result the prevalence of communicable diseases have significantly been reduced. They also called for increased participation of all stakeholders and the public for better outcome. Indicating that the Ministry of Health is working by designing national health strategic plan with a view to realize the Sustainable Development Goals, Ms. Amina Nurhusein, Minister of Health, called on the health practitioners to work on partnership with stakeholders for bringing positive change among the public.
