Martin Luther King once said: “I have a dream.’’ This year’s Eurovision Song Contest had the theme ‘Dare to dream’. I too have a dream, maybe not so big, but, nevertheless, important for me. Recently, on the occasion of the inauguration of the regeneration of Ġnien l-Għarusa tal-Mosta, the Prime Minister remarked that Mosta lacks open spaces. That is true. But what has been done or is being done about this? This need has been felt for a long time. Our town, which developed quickly during the last few years, deserves better. My dream is that the two big private gardens in the centre will not be swallowed up and built, as happened and is happening to many gardens in Mosta and elsewhere but will be preserved and, in the future, turned into public gardens. Ġnien l-Għarusa tal-Mosta, “a gem’’ as the Prime Minister said, is too far from many parts of the town for the elderly whose numbers are increasing and who would benefit a lot from such open spaces. Fresh air is badly needed in our overpopulated island to combat the poisonous fumes produced by the increasing number of cars.
